Why Are We Reinventing Our Marketing Function?

  Reena Tiwari

Our customers’ expectations and buying behaviors are changing, and more brands compete for their attention. We either need to reinvent our approach to marketing or risk losing business to our competitors.

The big change in buying behavior is that most of us now research a product online before we ever meet with a salesperson. This is true whether we’re looking to buy a washing machine or IT infrastructure.

Achieving IT Transformation with Cisco and Red Hat

Last week at Red Hat Summit 2015 I had the opportunity to meet with customers, partners, analysts and members of the open source community to hear their challenges. On a panel with IDC, we discussed how industries are being disrupted in ways that bring both staggering challenges and unprecedented opportunities. We generally agreed that digitization is the answer to this industry disruption.  In other words, in order to survive companies of all types need to become digital companies by leveraging new technologies to drastically evolve their business models, or change how they engage with customers, employees and suppliers, for instance.

We also agreed that Open Source solutions are often the right choice for IT departments as they look to navigate these transformations.  Particularly as the cloud industry increasingly turns towards open source technology as a catalyst for innovation, the opportunity for Cisco, Red Hat and our partners to capitalize on this market disruption is immense.

Having worked together successfully on unified computing and networking for years, less than a year ago Cisco and Red Hat announced expanding our partnership and accelerating collaboration around OpenStack, Application Centric Infrastructure and Intercloud.  We are now well positioned to help our customers deploy the new solutions that will power their digitization plans. Big Data. Big Opportunity. Real Simple: Practical Steps to Building Your Big Data Practice.

I talk to partners every day about the big data opportunity. We know that partners who sell UCS see dramatically larger deal sizes for big data opportunities.  We know all of this and still there is a lot of caution and skepticism from partners about jumping into this new world of big data and analytics.  I have heard comments from many partners, like:

  • “It’s just hype, another fad”
  • “I will ride this out and wait for the wave to pass and go on with business just like I always have”
  • “I am driving revenue and growing my business, why do I need to worry about this Big Data thing. I am not going to hire a “data scientist”!  I’m not even sure what I would do with one if I hired one!”

There is indeed is a lot of hype about big data and analytics today – it is everywhere. However, it is not a fad, and it is not going away. The world is moving to the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Everything (IoE), and big data is projected to be the next evolution of IT.

As IoT and IoE gain momentum, enterprises are deploying new data-creating sensor at the far reaches of their networks and billions of new connections are being made.  Cisco anticipates that 50 billion things will be connected by 2020.  Those connections are creating enormous amounts of data.  The ultimate success of IoT and IoE is all about being able to turn that data into insight.  Insights that drive organizational improvements such as delivering products faster, fueling higher productivity or predicting customer demand.  Big data and analytics is all about driving business outcomes from IoT and IoE. Cisco and Red Hat at the Center of IT Transformation

summit_logo_170The open hybrid-cloud and big data are at the center of the IT transformation that will enable every business, country, and city to become a digital and technology organization. Cisco and Red Hat share a common vision for the future of IT. That’s why Cisco is going big at the Red Hat Summit, which kicks off June 23rd in Boston. It’s going to be a great week of conversations with IT professionals who are harnessing open source innovation across their businesses and organizations to deliver new models of IT.

I’m especially looking forward to the opening general session with Red Hat CEO, Jim Whitehurst and Satinder Sethi Cisco VP of Data Center and Cloud Solutions. I’m sure these two industry luminaries will have keen insights into the market transitions and IT innovations that put the data center at the heart of digital transformation.

Of course, the Cisco team will be busy with an action packed agenda of sessions and demos. Plan to make the Cisco booth your hub in the Red Hat Summit Partner Pavilion. Our mini-theater will feature non-stop tech talks that span OpenStack, Group Based Policy, Big Data and Developer Programs. Every visitor to the Cisco booth will leave with an ultra-cool Cisco hat.
