Next week in Los Angeles, our team will be at HITEC 2014, the world’s largest hospitality technology show. This year, we are once again sponsoring the wireless network at the Los Angeles Convention Center, so wireless Internet connectivity at the show is free to attendees in the pre-convention areas. Our advanced Wi-Fi technologies and free Wi-Fi access will be offered in the exhibitor space and the Digital Den (conveniently located right outside the Exposition) and common areas of the event center. Every guest in attendance will experience the reliability and convenience of Cisco’s network in real-time.

Here at Cisco, we take customer listening seriously. From the Global Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey to customer advisory boards to social media monitoring – and other avenues – we are constantly listening to what our customers and partners tell us they need from Cisco to enable their business success. One trend we hear in every feedback source is mobility: you want more options for managing your network from your mobile devices.
One way we’ve acted on this feedback is to develop the Cisco Technical Support mobile application, which allows you to:
- Manage and update open support cases
- Ask and answer questions in discussion forums
- Research Cisco products and services.
Many of you are already using the Tech Support app, but we’ve recently added some great features that make it even easier to open a case and look up a contract. I’ve asked Jim Fuller, Senior Director of Services Entitlement, to share details on these new capabilities so that you can do more with Cisco while on the go. Read More »

Cisco has been playing a critical part for retail, healthcare, hospitality and transportation organizations to gain an understanding of how end-users move throughout an organization’s physical location. This is done through our Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) solution.
With all the valuable information CMX provides, the demand for even more accurate data has been growing. Location accuracy has been a hot developing field and, as I mentioned in announcing our Best of Interop Finalist status in the wireless category last week, Cisco’s taken the lead in redefining how this location-based data is acquired.
In the past many solutions have relied on the probing performed by the mobile device to acquire location-based data. In recent months this approach has shown diminishing returns. The underlying issue is that this data is reliant on how frequently the mobile device probes an access point. A couple issues that arise include:
- Mobile device manufacturers are reducing the frequency of device probing to conserve battery. This reduces the number of data points collected and impacts the accuracy of the data
- Different manufacturers probe the access point with varying frequency so some devices deliver more accurate information than others skewing the location analytics data.
At Cisco’s annual Partner Summit event we are revealing some key areas of focus for the upcoming Cisco v8.0 release. Although the list is not inclusive of all new functionality, I would like to highlight some steps we are taking to bring CMX to meet the ever-evolving demand for location-based data.
Step 1: Increasing Data Resolution Read More »

Orlando 2013 being Cisco Live’s largest event yet with over 20000 delegates was where CMX was shown to be a very key part of Cisco’s strategic business solutions offering and was shown right throughout the show from Key note addresses to booth demos, to focussed presentations to whisper suites even to deep customer on to one discussions.
Cisco Chairman & CEO, John Chambers in his keynote address to all the assembled delegates both live and via video link, where he outlined the the vision for tomorrow by exploring new opportunities and the amazing things that can happen when you connect the previously unconnected, demo’ed the key component that CMX plays in delivering enormous insights and business value to the retail industry.
Taking things a little deeper and more specific in the Hospitality Industry, SVP Enterprise Networking Group, Rob Soderbery in his Keynote, demonstrated a very compelling scenario using CMX to deliver incredible guest experience in a hotel. He showed how CMX can recognize the customer on arrival, wake up the hotel app, offer virtual concierge services, enable automatic checkin, navigation to the room, keyless entry and highly targeted offers. Next week in Minneapolis, our team is bringing Wi-Fi in a big way to HITEC 2013, the world’s largest hospitality technology show. As leaders in the Wi-Fi industry, we don’t just talk about what we can do; we make it happen, especially at this year’s HITEC.
For starters, we are sponsoring the wireless network at the Minneapolis Convention Center so wireless Internet connectivity at the show is free to attendees in the pre-convention areas. Our advanced Wi-Fi technologies and free Wi-Fi access will be offered at the entrance, registration, conference rooms, the Digital Den and Hall D and E common areas of the event center. Every guest in attendance will experience the Cisco network in real-time.
Enhance your HITEC experience with the Cisco-enabled mobile app
Our team is also featuring Connected Mobile Experiences with the HITEC conference mobile app, our premier business-relevant mobile solution for the hospitality industry. With this fully-functioning mobile app, you can see for yourself how Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences allows venues to use location-based services and analytics to create unique and personal mobile experiences for attendees.
