As expected a lot of talks, sessions and interest this year about the reality of the cloud deployment and hybrid cloud at Gartner DC Las Vegas.
Cisco is now perceived as a very credible player in cloud – In fact a quick electronic poll from the audience during one of the key notes speechs ranked Cisco as the number 2 amongst the vendors.
As a proof point of Cisco influence in the cloud computing evolution, both David Yen , Cisco SVP & GM Data Center Group, and John Manville Cisco SVP , Global Infrastructure for IT, presented Cisco vision and achievement in terms of infrastructure and foundation for cloud : Network programmability , and convergence infrastructure are at the core of the efforts driven by these Cisco executives and solution teams to deliver robust infrastructures for both our customers and Cisco IT organization.
If you are interested to know more about these sessions, stay tuned. I will post in the following days on this same blog the slide decks from David and John ,as well as two short and very interesting videos that I did these days:
-One one hand a short dialog between Giuliano Di Vitantonio, Cisco VP Marketing Data Center and Cloud, and David Yen.
-On the other hand a summary of the presentation by John Manville (see introduction blog from Omar Sultan Living with the Programmable Cloud)
Along the same lines , I also invited a panel of bloggers and tweeps , who attend Gartner DC to share with us their reaction to these presentations and their view on the current challenges faced by the IT organizations.
In this video you will hear from Presidio Steve Kaplan (@ROIdude), VCE Jeramiah Doodley (@jdooley_clt) , Cisco Jason Schroedl (@Jschroedl) and Todd Brannon (@tobranno) .
When we renovated our kitchen, one of our top priorities was upgrading to gas appliances. The first step was to have the gas company determine if our current gas line could handle the extra load of a restaurant-grade range.
The same pre-implementation assessment is highly recommended, if not required, before adding a bandwidth-intensive product to a network. Let’s use Cisco TelePresence as an example.
You bring a customer to a live TelePresence session. They are wowed. They immediately see the benefits of a face-to-face meeting, and they are sold on how the TelePresence investment can pay for itself in a short period of time with the elimination of travel expenses alone.
They are ready! But is their network?
As your customer’s partner and trusted advisor, it’s your job to find out. An assessment of their network helps you mitigate risk by determining quickly what upgrades are required to ensure a successful implementation. It also helps you customize the solution by adding features and functionality that can help your customer—customization that might not have been identified without an analysis.
On the flip side, an assessment takes time. It costs money. It requires people, travel, and expertise. These things add up and can quickly eat into your profits.
At Cisco Live, I had the good fortune to sit down with Steve Kaplan of Presidio (@ROIdude), and Sreekanth Kannan of VMware, to discuss the current landscape of desktop virtualization as seen through the experiences of our customers, key enabling technologies we’re excited about, and some thoughts about what to expect looking forward. Watch the session
Clearly our friends had a lot to share, and were excited about the transformation happening in our customers’ desktop IT environments. Some highlights from our chat:
When it came time to build a 370,000-square-foot, 72-bed healthcare facility featuring state-of-the-art services, the Chickasaw Nation had a number of important decisions to make. Among those were how to deliver excellence in medicine, tranquility, and healing to Chickasaws and other Native Americans.
Also important, according to Chuck Dougherty, CIO for the Chickasaw Nation, was providing reliable, seamless, and secure communications across its healthcare community. But technology wasn’t at the center of his decision.
In the video below, Dougherty explains how selecting to work with Presidio—a Cisco Master Security and UC Specialized Partner based in Greenbelt, Maryland—was less about technology and more about relationship building.
So what can you learn from Presidio about its commitment to customers? Read More »
