On September 30, 2015, Cisco received the International Corporate Energy Management Award from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for our global energy management program and our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally. We are very honored to receive this award and very proud of the work that we have done in setting aggressive targets and pursing high value projects to achieve the targets.
Cisco has set and achieved a series of environmental sustainability goals. In 2009, Cisco met a goal we had set in 2006 to reduce business-air-travel emissions worldwide by 10 percent against a 2006 baseline. In 2012, we met a commitment to reduce all Scope 1, 2, and business-air-travel Scope 3 GHG emissions worldwide by 25 percent against a 2007 baseline. In February 2013, we announced a set of five new goals related to our operational energy use and GHG emissions. To achieve these goals, we approved $57.5 million in funding for 2014 through 2017 for the creation of a program called EnergyOps. The EnergyOps team is comprised of energy and sustainability professionals who identify and implement energy efficiency and renewable energy projects throughout our global real estate portfolio working with local facilities teams, engineers and project managers. Many of the EnergyOps team members are Certified Energy Managers through AEE.

Since we launched the EnergyOps program, we have completed or initiated 344 energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. This has reduced Cisco’s energy annual use by 105 GWh and GHG emissions cumulatively by over 1 million metric tonne of CO2e. Examples of some of these projects include solar installations in the United States and India, numerous indoor and outdoor lighting improvements, and various types of upgrades to HVAC systems at many of our campuses, like our Shanghai location.
The multi-year EnergyOps program is not only helping us achieve our energy saving goals, but also manage operational expense, reduce exposure to fluctuating energy prices, and reinforce our commitment to being environmentally responsible. We estimate that the projects we have completed or initiated to date will save approximately US$15M annually.
The AEE Awards are presented annually at the World Energy Engineering Congress to energy companies and professionals who have achieved international, national, regional, or local prominence in their fields.

Remember your first compact disc? Maybe yours was a music album like Billy Joel’s “52nd Street” or Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA.” Or maybe your first compact disc was the CD-ROM, used to download the first application to your brand new computer. The jewel case made your CD look far more valuable than the price you paid. CDs were the future. Audio cassettes were a thing of the past.
Today, if you say the words “compact disc” to anyone under age 20, you get a strange look, and usually hear “What is a Compact Disc?” The introduction of MP3 players in the early 2000s gave consumers easy access to music, allowing them to share and download files to multiple devices with a few simple clicks.
Today, consumers also have easy access to downloadable software, images, and product licenses. They don’t need one more CD to collect dust in their office. CDs are a thing of the past.
Cisco understands our customers desire for fast, electronic fulfillment of software, licenses, and documentation. Our Supply Chain’s eDelivery program is not only delighting our customers by reducing physical software, licenses, and product documentation that ship with our product hardware, we are reducing Cisco’s environmental impact as well.
eDelivery is reducing software order lead times from weeks to less than 6 hours. eDelivery provides fast, reliable, and secure delivery, reducing logistics for our partners and customers. In Fiscal Year 2014, the eDelivery program saved over US$8 million, a 75% increase over the previous year. Additionally, eDelivery saved 904 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions, or the equivalent of 2.15 million miles driven by a passenger vehicle. That’s impact multiplied!

I am excited to announce that Cisco has joined The Climate Registry, a North American nonprofit organization that sets standards for calculating, verifying, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Our membership in The Climate Registry provides Cisco with the opportunity to share best practices to help improve corporate GHG accounting and reduction practices throughout the world. The mission of TCR also aligns with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals around GHG reduction and reporting.
We’ve had goals in these areas since 2008, when we pledged to reduce our GHG emissions (Scope 1, 2 and business air travel scope 3, to be exact) worldwide by 25% by the end of 2012. (Check out this Greenhouse Gas Protocol infographic that explains Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions).
Since meeting that goal, we set several other aggressive goals for fiscal year 2017, such as reducing our GHG emissions by 40% and using electricity generated from renewable sources for at least 25% of our electricity every year. Measuring and reporting GHG emissions is a big part of setting and reaching these goals.

The growing amount of solid waste being added to landfills from product packaging is an environmental concern to Cisco. To address this, we strive to design packages that protect against shipping damage while minimizing material usage.
Our employee-led “Pack It Green” Initiative, which promotes optimized packaging and order fulfillment, is a big part of this commitment.
In fiscal year 2014* we eliminated 1.9 million pounds of material and the equivalent of 3.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions through 30 Pack It Green projects. These included bulk-packed products, integrated product shipments, the reuse of packaging materials, and expanding opportunities for customers to “opt out” of physically delivered products.
These efforts also saved Cisco US$6.1 million – proving that what’s good for the environment is also good for our business.
