Tune in to Networking Field Day 11 – Switching Innovation—Everything Runs on Switching

networkingtechfielddayNetworking Field Day 11 is tomorrow and will be live streaming this Thursday, January 21st, from 2:00-4:00pm.

For the uninitiated, Tech Field Day is an event hosted by Cisco where delegates come and listen to a technical deep dive by a Cisco expert in a presentation and discussion format. These delegates range from bloggers, speakers, freelance writers, and podcasters that have a public presence that has an immense influence on ways that products and companies are perceived by IT practitioners. There are a few different branches of Tech Field Day: Networking Field Day, Wireless Field Day, Virtualization Field Day, and Storage Field Day.

#NFD11 will be a two-hour session where we’ll showcase a few different Cisco technologies to 12 delegates. We’ll be discussing the provisioning of Nexus switches using Puppet, IOS 16.x, Programmable Fabric Using VXLAN/BGP-EVPN, and LED lighting powered by Cisco Catalyst switches. Before we dive into those topics, we’ll kick-off our session with an introduction from Senior Director of Data Center and Enterprise Switching Carl Solder. Read More »

Tech Field Day Extra at ONUG – ACI, Docker, and OpenStack Group-Based Policy

A few weeks ago at the Open Networking User Group (ONUG) conference, Cisco hosted a session on ACI, Docker, and Group Based Policy for Tech Field Day Extra. ONUG is a two day conference which includes keynotes and panels providing opinions on open infrastructure deployment from IT business leaders.

And for those of you who haven’t heard of or seen the Tech Field Day sessions, a quick breakdown: Delegates (bloggers, speakers, podcasters, and influential leaders) come in for a session on Cisco technologies in which they are allowed to ask questions freely throughout the presentation.  Usually these presentations consist of a demo and/or a white boarding session.

For Tech Field Day Extra (#TFDx) at ONUG one of our principal engineers, Lucien Avramov, gave an hour presentation to 11 delegates at New York University.

Telemetry & Gaining Web Scale Operational Efficiency – Is it a Myth or Reality?

We can’t express how excited we were when Cisco was asked to sponsor and participate in an independent event, hosted by Tech Field Day, which invited experts from NetFlix, Google, eBay, and SignalFX to discuss the technical challenges some of these web scale providers face and the innovations they have helped drive in the industry to answer those challenges.  Although, the major focus of the event was on telemetry, they discussed various aspects of scale, management and operational efficiency in their environments. If learning from the industry leaders interests you – continue reading!

Wireless Field Day 8 Recap – Cisco Mobility Express Introduction with Brian Levin

In the beginning of the month we had the honor of participating in Wireless Field Day 8. For the unsure, the Tech Field Day crew brings in independent bloggers, speakers, and podcasters to vendors in the bay area for deep-dives. The 12 delegates of #WFD8 came by Cisco to discuss our approach to operational simplicity.  Greg Dorai, VP of Product Management, kicked off the Field Day with an overview of our sessions: 802.11ac Wave 2, CMX 10.2, and Systems Manager.

Next Brian Levin, Product Manager of Platform WLAN, introduced Cisco Mobility Express and discussed what 802.11ac Wave 2 means to Cisco. He gives an overview of the new capabilities found in the Cisco Aironet 1830 and 1850 access points, such as Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO). He then further went on to show on a whiteboard the provisioning process of Mobility Express.

Here are some questions that were asked during Brian’s first session on Mobility Express (time stamps included): Read More »

Cisco to Kick-off Networking Field Day 10 on August 19th at 9:30am

We are excited to share that Cisco will be participating in networkingfielddayNetworking Field Day 10 this year. Cisco brings together independent thought leaders and our engineers to share information and opinions in a two-hour interactive discussion format. If you cannot attend NFD10 all presentations will be live streamed from the Tech Field Day website.

These are the topics Cisco is covering this year at #NFD10:

Intelligent WAN (IWAN) Architecture: We are busting the myth that IWAN is part of a marchitecture and explaining DMVPNv3, Pfrv3, and AVC. We will also be expanding on how the IWAN architecture improves scale and performance while delivering better business outcomes for customers. Learn more about Cisco Intelligent WAN.

Branch Security: We will be showing how our security solutions simplify WAN provisioning. We will also explain how Cisco protects and hardens the network from outside attacks and security vulnerabilities. Topics covered during this presentation are Crypto, Certification CC, FIPS, NSA Suite B, and Security Designs. Learn more about Cisco Security.

Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN): Our presenter will be demonstrating how our APIC-EM Controller with IWAN App provides centralized configuration and orchestration for the WAN while doing a live demo. Learn more about SD-WAN.
