Tomorrow’s a special #WirelessWednesday, hats off to the folks working hard at Tech Field Day for kicking off the SEVENTH installment of Wireless Field Day. It’s an exciting time for the industry to give the delegates and the world wide web of Wi-Fi enthusiasts a glimpse behind the scenes of some of the latest technologies, and we are ready to put on a show.
This year, Cisco will host Wireless Field Day 7 delegates at the Cisco Meraki San Francisco office this Friday.
We will be spending 2 hours discussing the forefront of Wireless technology with Cisco thought leaders. Here is a sneak peek of what will be covered.
- Latest updates on the Cisco Meraki MR product line.
- Deep dive into the Cisco Meraki traffic analytics algorithm; how it works and how it scales for large deployments.
- Deep dives into MU-MIMO and RX-SOP; what they are and how they work
- Discussion on 802.11ac and where it’s going.
The show will start at 9:30am PST. We’ll be on Twitter with #WFD7 and streamed live on the TechFieldDay website. Tune in Friday to hear updates on the future of wireless networking.

We decided to take advantage of the fine collection of smart people running around at CiscoLive in San Diego, and tape another in our Virtual Symposia series. This one was a bit different than in that we started with a Cisco-specific seed topic and we did not take live Q&A due to the logistics of being live and onsite at CiscoLive.
I think the show turned out well–we have a wide ranging discussion on not just the Cisco ONE announcement but also SDN, network programmability and implications for networking folks.
This wide-ranging discussion touched on a number of topics:
- Contrasting Cisco’s ONE strategy with SDN and OpenFlow in general
- APIs, OpenFlow, and XML
- What will people do with SDN in the future?
- Distributed and autonomous versus centralized
- Standards: IEEE vs. IETF, de facto and interoperability
- VXLAN and the Nexus 1000V – Is 1000V SDN?
- Operational and organizational impacts
- Systems engineering
- Thinking of networks as flows

The USS Cisco took off for the Gestalt IT Networking Tech Field Day 2 with Captain Omar Sultan (see picture below, courtesy of techfieldday.com), Data Center Solutions Sr. Marketing Manager, at the helm. Tech Field Day networking industry experts gathered on the bridge, cleverly disguised as the Cisco Cloud Innovation Center (CICC) Lab, for an informal, no-holds-barred conversation on recent Nexus portfolio announcements, the continued march towards automated provisioning of cloud services and ever-evolving VM networking technologies.
