When asked about IPv6, many companies are aware that they must do something, but are not sure what is the best way to approach IPv6. In my talks with customers, I found that the unfamiliarity with IPv6 is one of the biggest obstacles. So, to gain experience with IPv6, there are several paths to go down, from the inside-out approach (start within an internal area and work outwards) to the outside-in (work from the internet towards the internal network). One very easy way to start with IPv6 is to use your existing proxy infrastructure. I want to show you how to do this by using the Cisco Web Security Appliance (WSA).

There is a great, not often talked about, perk to working at Cisco. I work alongside some of the brightest minds in technology, whose lives and work I quite often stand in awe of. The release of Cisco’s Mobility Experiences (CMX) is proof of our commitment to excellence.
Last year, when Connect Mobile Experiences (CMX) resonated so well with our customers, we started getting requests for greater flexibility and increased scale. Enterprise IT continues to play a critical role in the Internet of Things (IoT). A large part of IT’s role is understanding and anticipating what new device types will hit the network, when and how to optimally connect them. Beyond the obvious applications and services, an often-overlooked factor is the actual design of the thing. What spectrum does it use? And how will it impact your network?
Today Wi-Fi devices, including things such as sensors, connect using one of two spectrum bands – 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Conventional wisdom has been to advertise a common SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connectivity. But, with the rapid rise of more connected things, this has likely outlived its usefulness. The market for mobile devices is growing, and with it, the opportunities for new business services in existing and new markets. According to Cisco Visual Networking Index, by 2019, there will be 11.5 billion mobile-ready devices and connections, more than 4 billion more than there were in 2014. These devices will include traditional mobile phones and tablets, but will also grow to increasingly include machine-to-machine devices, including GPS systems in cars, asset tracking systems in manufacturing sectors, or medical applications making patient and health status more readily available.

When we launched UCS Mini back in September, it pushed us into new territory with an exciting offering that bundles servers, storage and networking into a single solution — much like the traditional UCS — but in a smaller form factor. It also allowed Cisco to effectively target branch or remote offices and the mid-market with UCS.

My travels last week took me to Tokyo for a presentation at the New Economy Summit, a gathering of several thousand entrepreneurs, industry professionals and students, organized by the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE).
