How would you define ‘digital’? As a communication channel or method? A convenience enabler? 1s & 0s? The inverse of analog? Bits versus atoms? Something we can no longer live without?
I am often asked ‘what is digital’? … ‘is it just our website, or broader than that?’ … ‘what exactly do you mean?’
So, I asked around to find out the word-on-the-street around ‘digital’. I was impressed with how many different, nuanced, and insightful answers I was given on the definition — I had to put it all together into a video in order to capture the rich and diverse viewpoints. In the video, you can learn what others think ‘digital’ is, as well as how we define it.

It’s hard to believe another calendar year is coming to an end less than 2 months. I’m amazed at the pace of which digital and social media continue to evolve and get excited when I think of what 2014 might bring in the way of further surprises.
Social media strategies differ for all companies and we all know the key to social is to have great content to amplify. So what happens when you have a team that not only produces great content but also has great social media tactics? Awards! Congratulations to Cisco’s Corporate Communications Social Media team for two big wins. Our small and mighty team of 11 won two PR News Awards. One for “Best Podcast-Videocast” for the “My Networked Life: True Stories from a Connected World” video series and the other for “Digital PR Team of the Year.”
PR News States: “Cisco Systems’ team is a tour de force of organized, systematic, digital innovation. The company’s core objective, creating continuous innovation, is seen in many ways. The team of 11 employees combines that objective—innovation—with an initiative to reach and connect with a broader audience, and position Cisco as a thought leader in the digital space.”

Believe it or not, consumers feel more emotionally connected to Cisco than to Apple, Amazon, McDonalds, or even Nordstrom’s. New research just out from Google and CEB Marketing Leadership Council, is pointing to the fact that customers are more emotionally connected to B-to-B brands than to consumer brands. Really? I have written many blogs over the years but never have I had so much trouble finding the right words as with this post. All kinds of thoughts are rushing through my head at a million miles per hour and I can’t seem to hold on to any of them. Then I take a deep breath and here it goes: today is my last day at Cisco.
I have had a great dance. I am so grateful for the people and organizations that have come into my life – both virtually and physically, – and for the memories they have given me. I have waltzed through some unforgettable experiences and cha cha’d my way to having the privilege of leading a team I’ll be forever proud of.
