Rajiv Asati, a Distinguished Engineer, is responsible for driving IP/NGN architecture and strategies. Since Joining Cisco in May 2000, Rajiv has worked with hundreds of large Service Providers (SPs), Fortune500 Enterprises, Government, and Educational institutions around the world in designing and deploying large scale IP and MPLS based triple-play networks. Asati incubated the end-to-end IP NGN system (CESNA) for Cable SPs and has led its world-wide adoption since 2006.
Rajiv is a subject matter expert, key go-to technical resource, and well respected thought leader across many key IP/NGN technologies such as IPv6, MPLS, L2/L3VPN, QoS, routing, multicast, and video. Rajiv also works very closely with development engineering to drive forward-looking features. He is part of Cisco Advanced Services, where he is leading WWSP IPv6 enablement and SP WiFi.
During his Cisco career, Asati has presented at numerous external and internal conferences and seminars including MPLS Congress, NCTA, APRICOT, CiscoLive/Networkers, SEVTs, and EBCs,. He was one of the featured speakers on ciscolive.com in 2011. His ongoing industry standard contributions include IETF (more than 10 RFCs and drafts) and CableLabs (BSoD L2VPN, IP/VPN DPoEPON, DOCSIS 3.0 OSSI, and MEF) specifications. Rajiv is CCIE SP certified and has almost 40 patents issued or pending. He has also published articles in ‘Packet’ magazine, and written over one hundred engineering documents, design guides, and whitepapers.
Prior to joining Cisco, Rajiv worked with AT&T Labs to design and deploy Advanced Intelligent Networks (AIN). He also worked with Nortel Networks developing SS7 and ISDN protocols.
Asati earned his Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications in 1997. Rajiv and his wife have one son and look forward to the birth of their daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music, and is a part-time disk jockey. Rajiv is based in Research Triangle Park, NC.
