Cisco Datacenter Solutions at Microsoft TechEd North America 2013

May 29, 2013 at 4:00 am PST

Please visit Cisco’s TechEd web site to learn more about what we have going on at the show and visit www.cisco.com/go/microsoft to learn more about Cisco’s Microsoft capabilities.

I first attended Microsoft TechEd in 1996 in Los Angeles. What a learning experience it was.

This year, I’ll be there staffing the Cisco booth (#1701) speaking about the Cisco Unified Computing System.

  • Do you run SQL, Exchange, SharePoint or other Microsoft applications?
  • Want to learn about the x86 server technologies and solutions that have propelled Cisco to the #2 blade server vendor in the Americas and #3 worldwide1 in only 3 years?
  • Would you like to see how you can have common set of management tools for your rack and blade servers that provide the missing hardware insight layer, with visibility from the chassis and rack all the way through to the virtual machine layer?
  • Are you interested in a turn-key solution for your private cloud (FlexPod & VSPEX)?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, stop by and speak with the UCS server team.

Cisco will also be demonstrating:

Both the Nexus 1000V and FlexPod are finalist for the Best of TechEd 2013. We are very hopeful this will be our third year in a row to win a Best of TechEd award.

TENA

Next week in New Orleans Microsoft’s trade show season kicks off in earnest with Microsoft Tech Ed North America which will be followed a few weeks later with Microsoft Tech Ed Europe 2013.  Cisco will be a gold sponsor at each event showcasing our datacenter assets.

Cisco continues to double-down on investments for Microsoft oriented datacenters – new UCS SMARTPlays and Solution Paks, Cisco CVD’s for Microsoft’s Fast Track private cloud program, Nexus 1000V support of Windows Server 2012, and award-winning UCS Manager integration with System Center 2012.

At Tech Ed we will be demonstrating key technologies and solutions such as our compute platform UCS and our FlexPod BOTE2013_Finalist_Partner and VSPEX reference architectures for Hyper-V private cloud environments. For the network platform of course Nexus 1000V will be getting the spotlight. Nominated for a Best of Tech Ed 2013 award in the virtualization category, Nexus 1000V delivers support for key advanced networking virtualization scenarios via integration with the Hyper-V Extensible Switch.

Our UCS Manager solution, with its strong integration into System Center 2012 continues to evolve. Stop by for a demo and see why it is was the 2012 Best of Tech Ed Breakthrough Technology award winner.

Where Cisco, Microsoft And Partners Win Together In Data Center

It’s a complex world of ecosystem partnerships out there, and it’s important to remember that while technology providers such as Cisco and Microsoft compete in areas such as collaboration and unified communications, they’re also tightly aligned in areas such as data center, where there’s a huge opportunity for Cisco and Microsoft partners to take joint solutions to market.

Cisco and Microsoft took another step in that alignment last week, thanks not only to the integration of Cisco Unified Data Center architecture with Microsoft Fast Track solutions, but also joint marketing and other activities to enable partners that sell both companies’ data center technologies.

The integration itself is a compelling one. Microsoft customers, for example, will be able to have programmatic access to the Cisco Unified Computing System, which gives them a lot more insight and control into how their Cisco Unified Data Center assets work in concert with Windows server and application software. (Here are some more of the details, including specifics on Cisco Nexus 1000V and Cisco UCS.)

Also new is that Cisco will offer several Fast Track solutions that provide customers a reference architecture using technology from Cisco and EMC, under the VSPEX architecture, or from Cisco and NetApp, under the FlexPod architecture. Both of those reference designs have been validated for Microsoft’s Private Cloud Fast Track program. Read More »

Microsoft on UCS: Simplify Your IT and Transform Your Business

April 11, 2013 at 5:40 pm PST

We’re at the final day of Microsoft’s Management Summit 2013 (MMS 2013) here in Las Vegas. We’ve handed out ~1,500 t-shirts; performed hundreds of demos on our technologies Nexus 1000V, UCS Manager, VM-FEX, and Cisco PowerTool; evangelized our Microsoft Cloud OS solutions FlexPod and VSPEX; and generally interacted with most of the 5,000+ attendees here.

Show attendees now have a better understanding of our technologies but also and perhaps more importantly, have a better and growing understanding of the true value we bring to their Microsoft oriented data centers.

Expanded Cisco Validated Design Options for Oracle Users

Collaborate 13
, the largest independent Oracle user group (IOUG, OAUG, Quest International) event is the launch point for 3 new Oracle-based, Cisco Validated Designs (CVD).  With the Joint Cisco/NetApp “FlexPod” as the hardware platform, the new CVD’s include:

            • Oracle RAC with Oracle Linux as the operating system
            • Oracle RAC with Oracle VM as the hypervisor
            • Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with Oracle Linux as the operating system

New Oracle based CVDs built on FlexPod from Cisco Data Center

These CVD’s, Prevalidated for Oracle, give Oracle RAC and Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne users the option to select a fully tested and supported solution for their infrastructure.

IT users face a difficult series of challenges; do more and do it better, but do it with lower budgets and staff levels.  Prevalidated systems, like these three new FlexPod-based CVDs for Oracle software, can help address these challenges.

Cisco and NetApp, working with software companies such as Oracle, are able to give customers a potent weapon to help IT organizations drive down complexity and deliver prevalidated, converged infrastructure capabilities for their mission critical databases and applications.  High availability and fast, reliable performance are benefits of converged infrastructure platforms like FlexPod.
