Cisco and NetApp continue to drive innovation with new FlexPod offerings that enable organizations to address their business needs while reducing risk and increasing IT efficiency and agility. FlexPod combines the Cisco Unified Computing System, Cisco Nexus data center switches, and NetApp storage components and provides a powerful platform for critical application workloads.
Please join us on Wednesday, August 7, 11 a.m. U.S. Pacific Time, when we will kick-off a technical series detailing FlexPod with Microsoft Private Cloud. In this live webinar, presented by Cisco, Intel, Microsoft and NetApp, you hear from technical experts on the following topics: Read More »
Recently I spent time at Cisco Live Orlando where I caught up with Trey Layton, CTO, VCE. We had an opportunity to talk about automation and orchestration of Vblock with Cisco UCS Director (formerly Cloupia). Over recent months, we have been doing even more work for our customers, collectively between our companies, to do deeper integration and to simplify the management, administration, provisioning and automation of our converged infrastructures.
As we see the continued trend to move to a services model in IT and adopt a private cloud infrastructure, Cisco UCS Director is the only solution to provide single pane of glass automation and provisioning of all virtual and physical assets and can provide end-to-end orchestration across server, network and storage resources. With Vblock, it provides our mutual customers an elastic pool of resources to be able to consume and adapt to various applications and use cases that customers are deploying in the virtualized or bare metal environments.
We are excited about the developments around both what UCS Director and Vblock are delivering, and there is a lot more in the works moving forward to continue to support simplification and agility for our customers’ data center architecture.
The next release of UCS Director will add VMAX and VNXE storage support to the product by September. This will allow UCS Director to support all Vblock models with complete server, network and storage provisioning automation.
The UCS Director task library will include over 50 Vblock specific tasks to allow users to easily build model-based automation workflows to dynamically provision the system.
Cisco continues to innovate, delivering technology and solutions that provide real value to our customers. Tomorrow starts here.
Cisco today introduced Application-Centric Infrastructure as the vision for Next Generation Data Center architecture, built for both today’s physical and virtual workloads as well as tomorrow’s highly dynamic Cloud-based, and performance-intensive big data application environments. Please check out Padmasree Warrior’s blog or Cisco Unified Fabric to learn more.
What I would like to share with you is how we are evolving the Cisco Unified Fabric to deliver operational simplicity through superior integration.
Delivering Operational Simplicity through Superior Integration
As organizations accelerate private and public cloud deployments, IT organizations and data center networks must evolve to meet rapidly changing and growing requirements. Virtualized and cloud environments require more agility and simplicity to quickly deploy and migrate virtual machines. IT organizations, on the other hand, are challenged with operational complexity, architectural rigidity and infrastructure inefficiency with manual processes, disjointed provisioning, deficient software overlays, static resource allocations and disruptions when growth is needed.
The good news is that Cisco continues to evolve its Unified Fabric to address these needs. The new Cisco Dynamic Fabric Automation delivers unsurpassed operational simplicities through superior integration. It does this by …. Read More »
Cisco IT has always encouraged employees to use the tools that help them work most efficiently from anywhere on any device.
As the range of IT services we offered has increased, we noticed that the process of acquiring the various tools became complex and confusing. We had a number of different internal sites (aka “stores”) within Cisco, each offering different systems for employees to request services. This complexity impacted the user experience and productivity of these employees.
In order to simplify the employee experience with Cisco IT, we made the decision to consolidate all these different systems into a single online service catalog – effectively a unified e-commerce storefront for our IT services – where our employees could find services they needed to do their jobs.
We thus created Cisco IT’s “eStore”.
Our goal was to improve employee satisfaction, decrease support costs, and increase employee productivity. We had to find a way to increase adoption and transparency of our existing IT services.
Cisco IT knew that a platform to consolidate these services into one unified service request system could be built on top of Cisco Prime Service Catalog, our own end-user portal and service catalog solution. This solution provides enterprise IT management capabilities that enable entitlement, approvals, service taxonomy control, and even chargeback.
The Best of TechEd 2013 awards recognize companies that offer innovative products to the industry. The judging panel reviewed more than 300 products and services and chose 33 finalists to be interviewed at Microsoft TechEd North America 2013 in New Orleans. Winners will be determined at the show by judges and an attendee choice competition (attendees can vote online here) and then announced on the show floor on June 5th, 2013. Winners will also be published online at http://www.windowsitpro.com and http://northamerica.msteched.com.
Teams from both companies are honored and excited by this recognition, the result of years of technology investment and collaboration between the two companies. Cisco’s Nexus 1000v was also named a Finalist in the virtualization category of the Best of TechEd 2013 award program. In addition to these distinctions at TechEd, NetApp was recently recognized as Microsoft’s Server Platform Partner of the Year for 2013, an awesome follow-up to winning Microsoft’s Private Cloud Partner of the Year award in 2012.
NetApp’s collaboration and partnership with Cisco on FlexPod represents a combination of industry leaders in their respective fields. FlexPod® with Microsoft® Private Cloud is a converged infrastructure platform featuring deeply integrated compute, networking, and storage as well as industry leading integration with Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 SP1.
