Cisco Employee Honored as Military Veteran at the White House

There are certain things in life most would consider “once in a lifetime” occurrences.  The feeling that you get when your dad releases his grip one last time – and you find yourself riding a bicycle on your own; or waking up in amazement as you discover money from the tooth fairy under your pillow after losing your first tooth.

On November 4, 2008 – people all over the world witnessed a once in a lifetime moment when Barack and Michelle Obama won the race to the White House – becoming America’s first African American President and First Lady. It was only in my wildest dreams that I would ever have the pleasure to meet them both.

Cisco Helps Military Veterans Find Meaningful Civilian Careers

Thousands of military personnel will transition from uniform to civilian life in the coming years — about 1 million between now and September 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

A Cisco priority is to help these men and women find meaningful jobs and educational opportunities that match their skills and interests after their service to our country is over.

Military Veterans Need Support from U.S. Companies

Since September 11, 2001, men and women in the U.S. armed forces have fought in our nation’s longest wars. This all-volunteer force has endured sacrifices that most of us will never know or experience—all to protect our peace and freedom. So, hiring a qualified veteran into our ranks is our chance to say “thank you“ to our nation’s heroes.

Hiring veterans is not only a good thing to do, it also makes good business sense. Their knowledge, training, and experience, often under extreme conditions, demonstrate that they can thrive in a competitive and dynamic business environment.
