What an event! My bags may be unpacked, but I’m still feeling invigorated by last week’s Cable-Tec Expo and all the transformations and innovations surrounding virtualization, software-defined networking, faster DOCSIS speeds and more. The cable industry is ever-evolving, and Cisco continues to deliver industry-leading solutions to help our cable operator customers succeed and thrive in the age of connected everything.

At the show, we made several industry-first announcements:

  • The industry’s first Full Duplex DOCSIS ready (FDX-ready) node, the GS7000 FDXi. Operators need to confidently invest in their networks today, without fear of having to replace nodes when FDX is ready. Our FDX-ready node solves that dilemma. You can find more details here.
  • Our Cloud Native Broadband Router (cnBR) is live with customer Midco. This is a true milestone. Our open standards design using microservices and software containers is unlike any in the industry, and Midco is using this CCAP solution in trials to deliver Gigabit services to Mobridge, South Dakota.
  • Our first cable customer for Infinite Broadband Unlocked (IBU) – Cogeco Connexion in Montreal, Canada. IBU is the industry’s first DOCSIS license plan that is designed to scale license costs to cable operator business success and retain the ability to capitalize license investments.

We were also honored with Four Diamonds by Broadband Technology Report’s (BTR) Diamond Awards for our cnBR in the CCAP category. At the booth, we took customers on a journey of network transformation, helping them extend the value of their greatest assets, as well as explore new market opportunities. I hope that you were able to join us for the show and hear firsthand about the impactful solutions Cisco is bringing to the industry.

You can always find out the latest on our Cable Access Solutions home page, SP360: Service Provider, and here on my blog.
