At Cisco, we are passionate about making a difference in our communities. Simply put, it’s who we are. The U.S. Public Sector team is no different. We make it a priority to pay homage to our core mission—to enable those who protect, serve, and educate—throughout the year by setting aside time to give back and help others.

On a larger scale, we come together as #OneCiscoPublicSector team once a year to participate in a Give Back week. It allows us to celebrate our passion for serving others, just like our customers, and is, by far, one of my favorite things we do. Below are a few highlights from this year’s volunteer activities.

2019 U.S. Public Sector Give Back week

From fighting hunger in Sacramento to enabling Atlanta Public Schools educators, we were out there giving back and helping to make a difference. And in the end, that’s what it’s all about.

Giving Back

Supporting those who protect and serve

All our activities during Give Back Week are about serving and helping others, but I would like to highlight one activity in particular. Our team in marketing and communications partnered with Military Missions in Action (MMIA) to complete a “Fill the Footlocker” volunteer mission.

Our volunteer teams, from California all the way to North Carolina, collected items for care packages and worked with the MMIA team to package the goods and have them shipped overseas to active duty personnel and to their canine counterparts. Every care package was filled to the brim, with each containing a special letter thanking the troops and their canines for their service.

“Sending these care packages overseas is a tremendous morale booster. They are getting something they don’t have access to, which means a lot in itself, but the biggest thing is the fact that you are thinking enough about them to send them something. That means so much.” – Ross Van Lerberghe, Fill the Footlocker Coordinator, MMIA, Retired Air Force

Coming together as one team truly enables us to give back for a greater good across public sector, and it helps us to enable those who protect, serve, and educate in a way like never before. It makes me feel proud to be part of this team.

Let’s keep this going throughout the year! What are you planning for your next give back activity? Share yours on Cisco Corporate Social Responsibility’s Twitter page.
