JL Valente serves as Vice President of Product Management for Cisco’s Cloud and Virtualization Group (CVG). In this capacity, he is responsible for the strategies and roadmaps of CVG’s product portfolio in the service provider segment. His charter is to align this portfolio with Cisco’s key initiatives by working closely with stakeholder technology groups and the sales organization to maintain Cisco’s position in mature markets and establish leadership positions in emerging markets. Valente plays a critical role in ensuring that CVG is tightly integrated across Cisco engineering groups, anticipating and taking advantage of market transitions, and delivering management products that differentiate Cisco’s solutions. He also leads initiatives around portfolio rationalization, process improvement, reuse and cross-pollination, and streamlining deliverables for a more consistent experience with CVG’s internal and external customers.

Valente joined Cisco in 2013 as a software executive with 30 years of operating experience in building international software businesses from the ground up, and a tribal knowledge of the changing world of information technology. Most recently he was President and CEO of a French social business startup, which was acquired by the IT service firm Atos to form the backbone of the Atos Zero eMailTM initiative. Previously he was CEO of RiverMuse, an IT operations software company reinventing IT event and fault management software. In 2008 as CITTIO’s Executive Chairman, Valente pioneered the company’s cloud computing system management initiative and overall market repositioning. He has also held global senior sales, marketing, and operations positions at software companies including InfoVista, Viasoft (now ASG), and CA where he led regional and worldwide marketing for its information management division between 1987 and 1996. He also spent a year as an entrepreneur in residence with Atlas Venture, where he focused on the wireless industry.

Valente holds a bachelor of arts degree in German from Sorbonne University, a master of computer science degree from Ecole d’Ingénieurs des Technologies de I’Information et du Management (EFREI), Paris, and has completed the Financial Program for Non-Financial Executives from Haas School of Business, Berkeley, California.
