The world of cybersecurity has fundamentally changed.
Today, I’m proud to share that Cisco is joining the world’s most critical cyber defenders to confront the most consequential shift in the history of our industry. Anthropic’s Project Glasswing unites organizations that share a common conviction: the emergent and soon-to-be proficient capability of AI in cybersecurity demands we move forward together – transparently, urgently, and with a strong defense of the digital world as the only measure of success.
This marks a significant moment for Cisco. New AI models, especially those from Anthropic, have triggered a new set of actions for how we build and secure our products. We are using these new capabilities to find and fix vulnerabilities at a speed and scale previously impossible, while simultaneously accelerating the development of security products capable of defending against AI-enabled adversaries.
While the capabilities now available to defenders are remarkable, they soon will also become available to adversaries, defining the critical inflection point we face today. Defensively, AI allows us to scan and secure vast codebases at a scale previously unimaginable. However, it also lowers the threshold for attackers, empowering less-skilled actors to launch complex, high-impact campaigns. Ultimately, AI is accelerating the pace of innovation for both defenders and adversaries alike. The question is simply who gets ahead of it and how fast.
Scale, speed, connectivity, and security are at the heart of our business
For Cisco, the weight of this challenge is not lost on us. We’ve anticipated it. We’ve been planning for it. And it’s what we are built for. Scale, speed, connectivity, and security are at the heart of our business. We run the infrastructure that powers the internet and enables customers to achieve their business objectives while cutting through complexity. That is not a boast. It is a responsibility. The security of the global internet is a commitment we carry on behalf of every business, every government, and every individual who depends on the connected world to work, learn, and communicate safely. In an era of rapid change, we refuse to be reactive. We will use every tool available to us to proactively tackle threats head on.
For some time, we have been stress-testing our own products and infrastructure against the most advanced AI-powered security tools available, including Anthropic’s latest unreleased AI model – Claude Mythos Preview. What we have found has been illuminating. Now the real work begins. AI-powered analysis uncovers data at a scale and depth that legacy frameworks were not designed to accommodate. This industry will recalibrate together, and Cisco is committed to leading that conversation.
At the end of the day, it is all about our customers. No matter how fast the industry moves, the transition ahead will not be seamless. Every organization can expect increasing pressure from AI-enabled threats while the work of hardening systems, developing fixes, and deploying updates works its way through the accelerated cycle of technology adoption. This will not be easy. We are here to tell you we are doing everything in our power to get ahead of it, and that we will not stop.
AI capabilities will continue to advance, the threat surface will evolve, and the organizations that protect the internet will need to operate at the speed of machines and the scale of networks. Much of what we are now experiencing would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. There is no finish line, only a commitment to do everything possible to stay ahead of adversaries.
What gives me confidence is not the technology; it is the community.
Security has always been a team sport, and the defenders who have protected this industry for decades have never succeeded by working in isolation. We have succeeded by sharing threat intelligence, raising the alarm when needed, and showing up for each other when the stakes are highest. That is what Project Glasswing represents. That is why Cisco is here.
