As 2025 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary pace and complexity that define the Asia Pacific, Japan, and China (APJC) region. APJC is a market unlike any other – diverse, distributed, digitally ambitious, and now, leading the world in AI adoption. This year, that unique combination created both unprecedented opportunity and new forms of cyber risk.

Early reports from Cisco Talos were clear that our region faced a uniquely complex 12 months. Unknown attackers targeted Japan-based organizations, with ransomware incidents increasing 1.4 times compared to the previous year. At the same time, organizations across APJC accelerated their AI journeys, with 23% of employees using public GenAI tools for work on personal devices. AI moved from experimentation to critical infrastructure almost overnight.

This dual reality has defined 2025: extraordinary innovation paired with extraordinary risk.

At Cisco, our approach remained grounded in the principles that guide everything we do:

  • Security built into the network. Protection must be intrinsic, not an afterthought.
  • Simplicity at scale. Reducing complexity creates resilience.
  • AI-led security. Using AI not just to detect threats, but to stay ahead of them.

These themes came to life throughout the year, powered by groundbreaking innovations and strategic collaborations.

People, Partnerships, and Proactive Posture

Cybersecurity wouldn’t be possible without the people who power it. Our Networking Academy expanded across APJC, equipping people with the skills to defend an AI-powered world. The CISA Emergency Directive served as a powerful reminder that in APJC, where critical infrastructure underpins national growth, rapid patching and proactive vigilance are not optional, they’re fundamental to regional resilience.

Our partnerships deepened, showcasing the power of collective innovation. From the University of Queensland driving regional innovation and talent development in Australia, to our work with Splunk to create Cisco Data Fabric, unifying security for enterprises across Singapore. This year also saw the formation of a significant joint venture with AMD and Humain to deliver world-leading AI infrastructure, a critical step in building secure and scalable foundations for AI adoption across APJC.

Innovating to Stay Ahead in the AI Era

We continued to innovate at pace. At RSAC 2025, global innovations like Cisco XDR with Agentic AI capabilities and the Foundation AI team reinforced how integrated ecosystems help APJC organizations defend against increasingly automated threats. These advancements

are key as we supercharge our secure enterprise network architecture for the AI era, leveraging AgenticOps to embed security and automation directly into campus, branch, and industrial networks.

At Cisco Live APJC in Melbourne, we set a clear direction: focusing on AI-ready infrastructure, digital resilience, and secure-by-design workplaces. It’s clear that when technology and trust come together, innovation thrives. We’ve celebrated partners like Data#3, whose achievements reflect the strength of our regional community, and we introduced capabilities like secure on-demand AI data center access through Cisco SD-WAN. Furthermore, the launch of Cisco IQ this year underscores our commitment to AI-powered simplicity, helping customers manage and secure their technology investments with greater ease.

Looking Ahead: A Secure and Innovative 2026

Now, as December closes, one thing is for certain: APJC is building a secure future defined by AI-readiness, resilience, community, and trust. The progress we’ve achieved in 2025 would not be possible without people – our teams, partners, and customers are the reason progress happens.

In 2026, we will continue building that secure future, standing at the cutting edge of cybersecurity and enhancing regional resilience. The threat landscape never stands still, but neither do we. Together, we stand united to secure the future at APJC and beyond.
