Cisco Spring ’14 Packet Optical Networking Conference (PONC) – The Secret Sauce

leonard_lunaBy Leonard Luna, Senior Marketing Manager, Cisco Service Provider Solutions

Once again, network operators converged on the Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose last week (May 13-15) to collaborate with their colleagues and Cisco around the packet and optical convergence evolution.  On behalf of Cisco’s engineering groups, marketing and events planning teams, we extend our sincere gratitude to all those who invested their valuable time and expertise to make the Spring ’14 PONC an exceptional event.

In this post-event blog, I will focus on what makes day one of a PONC event so compelling – shared, candid insight from those leading the Packet and Optical evolution, delivered in presentation, panel discussion and Q&A opportunities.  In a follow-up posting, I will focus on the workshops and deep dives featured on day 2.

Lighting up Cisco’s Packet Optical Network Conference

leonard_lunaBy Leonard Luna, Senior Marketing Manager, Cisco Service Provider Solutions

Timing is everything.  Faced with the ever-increasing challenges and opportunities of the Internet of Everything (IoE), the timing of Cisco’s Spring Packet Optical Networking Conference, May 13-15 at the Dolce Hayes Mansion in San Jose, couldn’t be better.

Fondly referred to as the PONC (‘pon-see’), Cisco coordinates this event with its customers and prospects twice a year: a Spring event in North America, and a Fall event in Monza Italy.  Besides being an immensely influential source of customer input and feedback for Cisco, the conference’s is designed to foster collaboration among attendees -- often highlighted by compelling customer presentation and/or panels discussions by luminaries from the world’s leading ISP, OTT and ILEC organizations.  This year will be no different, and we look forward to you helping us Light up our Spring event.

Bill Gartner, Vice President and General Manager, Cisco High End Routing and Optical Business Unit, provides a PONC overview and invites you to participate.

Cisco Technologies featured at OFC/NFOEC’14: Programmable, Converged & Highly Scalable

By Leonard Luna, Senior Marketing Manager, Cisco Service Provider Solutions

This past March at OFC/NFOEC’14 in San Francisco, California, Cisco was a once again a significant part of the leading edge dialog.  Organizers took full advantage of the dynamic Moscone Center facilities to create a highly compelling environment for suppliers, analysts, industry experts and end users to collaborate on optical and networking solutions.  The event was very successful for Cisco from both a face-to-face and social media perspective.

This year, we leveraged one of our largest booths ever to create some ambitious live demos showcasing how Evolved Programmable Networks (EPN) are designed to handle the challenges and opportunities presented by the Internet of Everything.  The entire Network Convergence System (NCS 6000, 4000 and 2000) was live within the booth, and one year after its introduction at OFC, an expanded Cisco CPAK family of transceiver modules was also featured, including the LR4, SR10, ER4 and show favorite – the Cisco CPAK 10 x 10G LR solution.

If you missed your opportunity to engage with Cisco at OFC’14, you can view the following video demos created right on the show floor to see a few of our attendee’s favorites:  Read More »

Demystifying Multi-layer Convergence and SDN at OFC/NFOEC 2014

By Leonard Luna, Senior Marketing Manager, Cisco Service Provider Solutionsleonard_luna

If it’s Spring, then it is time for OFC/NFOEC – the world’s leading event for advancing optical solutions (March 9-13).  Cisco will, once again, have a strong presence, including our largest booth ever (booth 4359), at this year’s event being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.  Building upon the industry wide dialog around multi-layer convergence and SDN, we will showcase the Evolved Programmable Network (EPN), the Cisco Network Convergence Systems (NCS) and our highly innovative CMOS photonics technology – CPAK.

EPN is the foundational layer for Cisco Open Networking Environment ( ONE) strategy and is the natural evolution of the IP next generation network (IP NGN). It is designed specifically to leverage the opportunities presented by the Internet of Everything (IoE). It optimizes the delivery of multi-service solutions over service provider networks.  An EPN increases service provider revenue opportunities, lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) and supercharges service agility.  One of the key elements of Cisco’s EPN architecture is the Cisco NCS product family featuring the NCS 6000 Series IP Router, the NCS 4000 Series Converged Packet Transport platform and the NCS 2000 agile ROADM platform.  A key differentiator to Cisco’s EPN is our growing portfolio of CPAK transceivers delivering never before seen levels of density, power savings and flexibility to Cisco’s portfolio of data center switches, IP routing and transport solutions.

At OFC/NFOEC, Cisco will showcase Read More »
