At Cisco, we have invested significant time, money and resources into igniting innovation around the Internet of Everything (IoE) both inside and outside the company.
Since fostering an innovation ecosystem is so critical to the success of IoE, last year we launched the global Innovation Grand Challenge. The risk-reward ratio was high, but with a lot of hard work – at Cisco and with partners — the Challenge was a resounding success by all accounts: more than 1,000 entries from 171 countries.
The winners were announced at the IoT World Forum in Chicago last October, and they received not only prize money, resources and mentorships – but also valuable publicity. Driven by the success of the initial Challenge, the IoTWF Steering Committee recently decided to launch a second Innovation Grand Challenge, and this year’s winners will be announced in December at the World Forum in Dubai. Today we’ve successfully completed the IoT Innovation Grand challenge that was announced in April 2014. When Cisco embarked on this journey, our goal was to discover, recognize, promote and reward innovators, entrepreneurs and early-stage startup businesses with innovative ideas and solutions for IoT.
With over 800 submissions from 71 countries, the response has been absolutely amazing. We have received a diverse set of ideas that ranged from connected home to cognitive computing, connected manufacturing and advanced communications systems. Out of these submissions 19 teams advanced to Semifinals and 6 teams advanced to Finals. Read More »

At the recent IoT World Forum Steering Committee meeting one of the topics that came up again and again was innovation – the need for innovation in business models, the need for innovation in our lives as the Internet of Everything approaches, and the need for innovation with developing the “things” that will be connecting to the IoT.
One of Cisco’s ongoing business strategies is to invest in innovation and so I’m excited to share that we’re now accepting submissions for the Cisco Internet of Things (IoT) Innovation Grand Challenge! The Grand Challenge is a global, open competition aimed at recognizing, promoting and accelerating the adoption of breakthrough technologies and products. We wish to foster growth in startup businesses that will contribute to the growth and evolution of the Internet of Things. Cisco seeks to inspire and support the next generation of entrepreneurs and startups that are developing technologies in areas of applications, analytics, management and connectivity.
The first round of judging will happen in July when 18 ideas will be selected by Cisco judges with one “crowd favorite”. From those we’ll narrow down to 6 and then the three finalists will be featured at the next IoT World Forum.
