As the world tuned in to witness the breathtaking moments of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, I was filled with immense pride reflecting on Cisco’s role in making NBCUniversal’s presentation of the event a monumental success. Our longstanding partnership with NBCU, spanning over a decade, showcases the incredible possibilities that emerge when innovation and collaboration come together on the world’s biggest stage.

It’s a monumental effort that requires robust and reliable network infrastructure, and that’s where Cisco comes in.

The Power of Networks

Networks are the lifelines that keep businesses connected and operations running smoothly. From live broadcasts to real-time streaming, every aspect of the viewing experience depends on a reliable and secure network. And when it comes to networks, the world relies on Cisco.

This year, NBCU presented more than 7,000 hours of programming across linear and digital platforms, including 5,000 hours streaming on NBC Sports’ digital platforms. A huge leap from 16 years ago, when NBCU broadcast 2,200 hours of video for the Olympic Games Beijing 2008. This unprecedented coverage is made possible in part by Cisco’s cutting-edge network solutions, which ensure seamless and high-quality delivery of content to millions of viewers.

A Decade of Partnership and Innovation

Our collaboration with NBCUniversal has always been about more than just technology; it’s about creating unforgettable experiences. For over ten years, we have worked together to revolutionize sports broadcasting. Our joint efforts have brought innovations to life that set new standards in the industry. This partnership demonstrates how shared vision and expertise can deliver exceptional results, ensuring that every viewer in the United States enjoys unparalleled coverage of the Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Our work with NBCUniversal extends beyond just technology deployment. It’s about ensuring that every viewer experiences the magic of this spectacular event with the clarity, reliability, and immediacy they expect. From the behind-the-scenes operations at the International Broadcast Center (IBC) in Paris to the viewer’s living room, our technology is a key enabler of the presentation of this global event in the United States. This year’s event

was not just a showcase of athletic prowess but also a testament to the incredible advancements in broadcasting technology and connectivity.

A Milestone Moment: The Debut of Gold Zone

The Gold Zone whip-around show on Peacock is also a perfect example of how our collaboration with NBCU continues to evolve, bringing new and exciting ways to engage with the Olympic & Paralympic Games. One of the highlights of this year’s coverage was the debut of Gold Zone—a widely-acclaimed daily show that brought fans closer to the action than ever before, guiding viewers through the best and most compelling moments. With up to 40 events occurring simultaneously during the Paris Games, Gold Zone presented viewers with can’t-miss action, offering the most comprehensive and all-encompassing live whip-around coverage of any Olympic & Paralympic Games to date.

Looking Back and Marching Ahead

As we celebrate the achievements of athletes from around the world and marvel at the technological advancements that bring their stories to life, I’m proud to celebrate Cisco at the forefront of innovation and connecting people to sport around the world and what’s ahead within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement.
