Today, we announced an exciting update to Cisco’s Executive Leadership Team. Steve Clayton will be joining Cisco as our new Chief Communications Officer, effective January 5, 2026.
Steve comes to us from Microsoft, where he has spent over 28 years in various communications and storytelling roles. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Communications Strategy and Chief Storyteller, working closely with senior leadership to shape communications and playing a pivotal role in changing company culture. He and his team were responsible for Microsoft’s owned storytelling as well as leading the work to reinvent how the global communications team applied AI to the business. Previously, Steve also led Microsoft’s Global Public Affairs team.
We are at a pivotal moment in our company’s history, as we look to help customers, partners, and governments around the world unlock the power of AI. Steve’s deep expertise and vision will help us further elevate Cisco’s story and cement our role as providers of the critical infrastructure for the AI era.
I’m incredibly excited about what’s ahead, and I look forward to welcoming Steve to Cisco in the new year and seeing all that he and our Global Communications team will accomplish together.
I agree with this assessment. It’s time for Cisco to lead an “Applied-AI Movement” and evolve beyond merely talking about AI infrastructure. Let’s make sure Steve is ready for this.

Maybe the most gay DEI position ever invented. “Chief Storyteller”? How do you introduce someone with a straight face who has this title?
