Ron Hranac

Technical Marketing Engineer, Cable Access

Service Provider

Ron Hranac is a Technical Marketing Engineer for the Cable Access Business Unit at Cisco Systems, Inc., and is based in the company’s Centennial, Colo. office. He has been in the cable industry for more than 46 years and has worked extensively with microwave, satellite, fiber optics, HDTV, two-way and other cutting-edge technologies for cable. Ron is recognized as a technical leader in the North American cable TV industry.

Prior to joining Cisco, he was Vice President of Engineering for High Speed Access International, a division of High Speed Access Corp. Ron spent nine years as Senior Vice President of Engineering for Coaxial International, Inc., a Denver-based cable television consulting firm. In addition to his cable industry tenure, Ron also spent five years in commercial radio broadcasting. He began his cable career with TelePrompter Cable TV in 1972 and moved to Jones Intercable, Inc. in the late 1970s. After nearly 11 years with Jones in various engineering capacities, Ron served as CT Publications’ Senior Vice President of Editorial in 1990. He also held freelance roles as Senior Technology Editor and a monthly columnist for Communications Technology magazine through 2012.

Ron’s industry activities include the publication of hundreds of articles and papers, and he is past chairman of a National Cable Television Association ad hoc Subcommittee to research 75-ohm traceability at the then National Bureau of Standards. He has been a speaker at numerous industry conventions and seminars around the world. In 1997 he was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers, and in both the 1998 and 1999 Western Cable Show issues of CableFAX magazine was named among the industry’s 100 most influential people.

Ron is a Fellow Member of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and a past member and Chairman of the Society’s Board of Directors. He has been active at various levels of SCTE since 1979 and was inducted into Society’s Hall of Fame in 2010.
