Technology has no language barrier, but access to it often does. When a developer’s first tutorial, first documentation page, or first “how-to” video is only ever in one language, we quietly tell a whole audience: this wasn’t built with you in mind.

¡Hola a todos! 🌎 September is Latin and Hispanic Heritage Month, and here at Cisco DevNet, we wanted to celebrate it the way we know best: through the stories of the people who build, automate, and innovate with us every day.

So throughout the month, we ran a special video series, entirely in Spanish, spotlighting Cisconians from across Latin America (and beyond) who are shaping the future of network automation. Four episodes, four very different careers, one shared thread: they’re proof that great engineering doesn’t have a single language, a single background, or a single path.

Here’s a quick recap of the series, in case you missed an episode, or want to send it to someone who’d love it.

Ep. 1: De México a Cracovia: Una Historia de Network Automation 🇲🇽➡️🇵🇱

We opened the series with Cassandra Barreto, a Software Engineer on the Software, Automation and Orchestration (SAO) team, based in Krakow, Poland. Cassandra walked us through her journey from Mexico to Poland and how that move reshaped her career in network automation. She dove into her day-to-day work with Cisco NSO and other automation tooling, showing how the same technical foundations that power enterprise networks can also power a career that crosses continents.

Ep. 2: Del problema al código: Automatizando con DevNet 🤖🌐

Next up, Alan Barbosa, from the SAO team but in Mexico City, took us behind the scenes of NetConnect, a network automation solution he helped build that integrates Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco ISE, and ServiceNow. Alan showed how tying these platforms together automates network operations end to end, cutting down manual work and, just as importantly, cutting down human error. It’s a great example of what “problem to code” really looks like in practice: identifying friction, then engineering it away.

Ep. 3: Así es un día de una Arquitecta de Software 👩‍💻🏆

In episode three, Sari Fernández, a Software Architect based in Mexico, shared what a day in her role actually looks like, and how she got there. Her path went from TAC to Architect, often leading projects before she officially held the title, and learning to delegate along the way. Sari’s advice stuck with a lot of us: nobody masters everything technically, and what really makes the difference when moving from developer to architect is a mindset of continuous learning, humility, and courage.

Ep. 4: Del Ingeniero al Profesor con DevNet 🎓📡

We closed out the series with Ricardo Duque, a Public Sector Sales Engineer at Cisco covering cities, government, healthcare, and education across California. Ricardo showed how he takes DevNet well beyond Cisco’s own walls: from Meraki camera automation use cases for physical security in schools, to his work as a Cisco Academy instructor, helping the next generation get past the fear of learning technology and into the practice of it.

One Series, Many Languages

Here’s something worth highlighting: every video in this series, and across our Cisco DevNet YouTube channel more broadly, is enabled with multiple audio tracks. That means you can watch these episodes in Spanish, or switch the audio track to listen in English or another supported language, right from the YouTube player settings.

This isn’t a small detail. Coding, automation, and AI move fast, and most of the content that teaches these skills is produced in English first, sometimes only in English. That leaves a real gap for the huge, talented community of Spanish-speaking developers, network engineers, and students who are just as capable of building the next great automation platform, but who have to work through an extra layer of translation just to get there.

Making our content available in multiple languages isn’t just a nice gesture, it’s part of making sure the future of technology actually includes everyone who wants to build it. Cassandra, Alan, Sari, and Ricardo are living proof that some of the most interesting work in network automation and AI is already being done by Spanish-speaking engineers around the world. Our job is to make sure their stories, and the knowledge behind them, reach as many people as possible, in whatever language gets them there.
