“I live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm, and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” – Jawaharlal Nehru
I have always strived to live life to the fullest – a life of adventure, and I feel both my bike and Cisco help me to do just that!
To me, there is nothing like going out for a bike ride – and I’ve covered several thousand kilometres exploring on my Royal Enfield motorcycle. I love riding for more than the thrill. It allows me to step outside my comfort zone, encourages me to take risks, and helps to put my mind at ease. Travelling on a motorbike puts you on the scene, and offers you a flexibility and freedom you can’t get anywhere else. The fresh air hitting your face is a magical feeling.
Sound familiar? I thought it sounded a lot like working at Cisco too! 😉
Working at Cisco was my dream, and believe me, it has been one of the most wonderful experiences of my life. So how are these two similar? I’m glad you asked –
1. You’re a part of something: You may have heard that working at Cisco is a lot like being part of a family, and that’s true. Riding or even being part of a bike club is much the same!
I love that at Cisco you don’t necessarily feel like you’re part of the “corporate world” because we operate with so much freedom and flexibility – employees are trusted to get their work done and be the experts in their fields. Amongst the great atmosphere and beautiful campuses, my co-workers are incredible. They are respectful, encouraging, and are always ready to help. Many of my fellow bike riders are also Cisco employees and we gel together so well – it doesn’t matter what our age or gender is. We’re always a team and family first.
Additionally, through our Time2Give initiative at Cisco (where we receive 40 hours annually to give back in ways that we’re passionate about) I had the opportunity to be part of a group called Cycle to Work. We motivate each other to bike to the office, reduce our carbon footprint, and give back to our environment. All while doing something we love – now that’s something to be proud of!
2. The Culture: I have been part of Cisco for 2 years now, and the challenging work has always kept me motivated. But what I love most is being able to create a work-life balance that works for me. I feel free to focus on the work tasks that need to be accomplished every day, but also empowered to take care of myself and focus on what’s important in my personal life as well. Balance is everything, and Cisco truly “gets it”! You are also encouraged to bring your full self to work every day, and there is a level of comfort in knowing that Cisco appreciates who we are on an individual level. As a woman in tech, I think Cisco is one of the best companies to work for.
3. It will take you places: It’s pretty obvious that a bike will take you places. 😉 But this example runs much deeper – yes, from time to time I get to travel for work and that’ssomething this travel freak LOVES! What more could you ask for in getting to explore and experience new places while changing the world through Cisco? It’s a dream come true!
But beyond even that, Cisco encourages you to grow in both your professional life and personal life – this company wants you to succeed! And, that, I think will always take you on the adventure of a lifetime!

Awesome!!!
Hey
Make me also part of your Cisco….
Namita,
Thank you for sharing. Personally, motorcycles intimidate me so your story gave me a sense of how it's liberating it can be but without all the risk ;-).
Very nice write up Namitha. Loved the narrative and real life experiences you shared with everyone
Awesome Namita !!!
Very well articulated comparison of Cisco and Bike Riding 🙂
Keep going. God Speed.
Looking at the picture, every guy rides a lower version of motorbike. And there you go majestically than others with RE. Awesome
Hey Namita
Very well collated and put together. I was so happy to read it.
I never knew 'writing' to be one of your strengths.
But I must say, you have done it really well!
Keep going, happy to see you getting ahead
Could not agree more! Who else rides at Cisco? I would love to get out to Bangalore and do a 'Cisco' ride to learn more about the area. If you are in the states, this is one Cisco rider happy to who you around Texas. Thanks for sharing.
