To address many questions about mobility, I am delighted to share with you our point-of-view through our “Cisco SPotlight Series,” an ongoing course of videos in which we answer questions and provide commentary on many hot topics in the service provider industry.

In this latest video, I reveal what mobile operators and their customers, including enterprises and end-users, can expect in 2015 as mobile Internet networks are increasingly becoming virtualized, and virtualization is increasingly becoming networked.

This extremely fluid market means that mobile operators must reprioritize how they operate and need to be agile. We believe that these challenges can only be overcome by software-driven platforms such as network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN), coupled with orchestration and automation capabilities. These offer the manageability, scalability, openness and flexibility mobile operators require to succeed.

Other topics that I will cover in a video interview next week are:

  • How the Internet of Everything (IoE) and machine-to-machine (M2M) connections will impact service providers and their customers; and
  • How we are helping service providers transform their businesses through innovation.

Simply put, 2015 will be the year of industry-transforming innovations for service providers. We intend to increase the pace of virtualization into the marketplace. Only then will service providers be able to achieve the levels of business agility and cost of service that they need to thrive in this global marketplace.
