Did you know that by 2016, two thirds of the world’s mobile data traffic will be video? And by 2020, 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet? This is huge. Plus, the global cloud market will grow nearly 500 percent by 2020. For me, this means I get to communicate with bunches of new people!
For your customers, it means figuring out how to tap into this major shift to empower employees to engage in entirely new ways. It’s also about putting the collaboration solutions in place to help their workforces evolve from knowledge workers to next-generation collaborative innovators.
This transition presents an exciting—and profitable—opportunity for our partners. And Cisco just sweetened the pot with its launch of new products, services, and promotions at the Collaboration Partner Summit in Los Angeles.

Traditional network performance management relies on probes/service modules for data collection but it does not scale as monitoring is best done pervasively unless you already know in advance where all the problems are going to be. Furthermore, traditional solutions have not been able to provide adequate visibility and the relationship between the network and applications to pinpoint the issue.
Medianet introduces monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities embedded with routers, switches, endpoints and applications. Essentially router, switches and endpoints/applications become passive probes so pervasive monitoring is possible. The instrumentation across routers, switches and endpoints/applications offer a hop by hop view of traffic performance (loss, jitter, latency, etc.) that was too costly or complex of network operators to deploy.

Traditionally, management software has had to approach the network as a collection of individual devices. This individual device view leads to management software that presents reports and data along device or interface lines. The applications network traversal experience is lost. While the management software could technically perform the correlation, only very few do due to the complexity required. The medianet mediatrace feature allows the operator and the management software to communicate with a set of network nodes represented by a flow. The data is consolidated and organized into a single report by the network and presented to the requestor. This allows the management system to query a set of nodes that it has not discovered, is managing or have direct contact with. Due to the built in correlation of the report mediatrace makes it trivial for the management system to do path analysis and flow analysis.

Observe Cisco medianet in action as you tour Interop's network with conference engineers.
Today was the first day of Interop 2011 in Javits Center in New York City! The event runs until Friday, Oct. 7, with a full schedule. The show floor is open on Wednesday and Thursday with the Cisco booth highlighting a number of medianet technologies.
Performance monitor, which allows for the analysis of voice/video/data traffic on Catalyst 3000 series switches and ISRs (today) just via a software upgrade, will be shown. Additionally, the medianet booth will have a demonstration setup where the Catalyst 3000, using the IPSLA video operations feature, generates synthetic video traffic that stresses the network in the same way as a variety of video endpoints. In keeping with the IPv6 theme of Interop this year we’ll also have IPv6-enabled video endpoints. In fact, we’ll be showing IPv6 to IPv4 interoperability. Stop by and say hi! Read More »
