The Team is excited to present a new SNA video. SNA is a free network level monitoring and management tool for our line of Cisco Switches. A fluid interface is accessible via browser on any 550X, 350X, and 350 Series Switches.
SNA will manage the new generation of 550X, 350X, 350 and 250 Series, as well as discover past generation 500, 300, and 200 Series Switches.
- Key Capabilities include:
- Discovery of Network Topology
- Display Link Status
- Monitoring
- Apply Configurations
- Software Upgrades
Enjoy the video!
…And use SNA! LINK
Put the name/type of switch to get the latest switch software.
Have fun,
Marc and the Team
Would be nice to have a link to the software in this blogpost. The search on cisco.com doesn’t find this software (yet).
Good call Karsten. We added the link. Just input the type of switch and get the software.
Actually you don’t need to install any software, if you load the latest Cisco image to your switch, and use a browser to login to the switch management, you will notice that you have two options (you can see it in the video), one of them is SNA. It is a WEB application, no need to install anything!
A tool to help the backbone of our economy – small business. Being able to monitor your own network, identify potential problems and be proactive rather than reactive saves money and time for our small businesses.
Thank you – just make sue to have the latest FW image for the switch.
Does “discover past generation 500, 300, and 200 Series Switches”means they can be managed too? What are the benefits from the SNA perspective when we are changing from 300 to 350X and from 500 to 550?
I need to order about 20 sku till end of the week..
500, 300, and 200 Series Switches can be discovered and displayed in the topology if they’re connected directly to a 550X, 350X, 350 or 250 series switches. Device explorer, notification and service are not supported, but you can locate the switch in the topology and cross launch the traditional device UI.
Full SNA support is available on 550X, 350X and 350 series switches. 250 series switches can be fully managed by SNA, but the SNA web interface itself is only available on 550X, 350X and 350 series switches. So you will need at least one of these switches in the network to be able to use SNA.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any further questions.
Great explanation Quingau. Thank you so much. Sure there are further questions regarding the new SNA.
1. To make sure I got it right we are not able to provisioning VLANs, 802.1x Security.. less then 250 Series?
2.Does SNA support more then one management switch (i.e. Stack) for backup and failover / availability of SNA?
1. 250, 350, 350X and 550X series can be managed in SNA. 200, 300 and 500 series can only be discovered. 220 series does not support SNA at this time. 110/100 series are unmanaged switch, and thus cannot be discovered or managed in SNA. ;
2. There is no concept of backup management switch in SNA. All 350, 350X and 550X series switches in your network can be used as management switch. You don’t need to specify one switch as the management switch. Log into any of the switch, and you can choose to view the SNA interface. And if a particular switch is down, you can use the SNA interface on another switch. It’s totally flexible and no single point of failure.
