This year, more than 1.8 million fans will stream through the gates of the Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia. They come to watch their favorite sports teams, catch a big-name concert, or attend nearly 100 other special events.

The stadium team wanted to capitalize on all those turnstile clicks. They needed a better way to make fans feel welcome right out of the gate—and engage them at every step.

That’s where Local Measure came in. As a Cisco partner, they are a star player at creating meaningful experiences for any-sized crowds.

Local Measure started by working with the stadium team to leverage the Wi-Fi connectivity provided to fans across the complex, all powered by Cisco Wireless. Using the Cisco Connected Stadium package and Cisco Vision for Sports and Entertainment, the Sydney Cricket Ground put up 1,700 internet-ready televisions.

Now, the stadium can broadcast relevant content to guests anytime, anywhere—not just at the gate. The new televisions let fans enjoy event highlights, and spot perks and promotions. And, as part of Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences, fans can skip the queue, order food online, and pick it up when it’s ready.

With improved Wi-Fi, fans also have more ways to connect with each other, their favorite teams, and celebrities on social media. And connect they do. Interaction with fans on digital platforms is up, as are posts from fans at the venue. Plus, the stadium gets notified when people post pictures or comments on-site, which lets them connect with fans faster. They can reply to posts or even repost photos, whether fans have used the right hashtags or not.

The Sydney Cricket Ground debuted its connected stadium solution during the 2014 Major League Baseball Opening Series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers. That solution has now been extended to all areas of the 48,000-seat venue.
