On August 19th twelve delegates came into Cisco for a deep dive session on multiple topics including IWAN Policy Automation and IWAN Application Visibility and Protection. This session is known as Networking Field Day where bloggers, speakers, podcasters, and influential leaders come into Cisco for a 2 hour session and ask questions to our speakers throughout presentations on exciting Cisco technologies.

Jeff Reed, VP of Network Transformation, kicked off #NFD10 by introducing Cisco’s approach to Software Define WAN (SD-WAN) for the Enterprises. Sumanth Kakaraparthi, Product Manager for Platform Routing, and Pedro Leonardo, Product Manager in Networking Transformation for Enterprise Management and Controller, then continued to dive into Zero-Touch Deployment. For more information on those sessions, click here: Networking Field Day 10 Recap – Introduction to SD-WAN and Zero Touch Deployment

Sumanth and Pedro continued with a deep dive into IWAN Policy Automation, where they explain how Cisco moves away from feature level configuration to business policy configuration.

Here are some questions that were asked during Sumanth and Pedro’s IWAN Policy Automation session from the delegates who attended with timestamps included:

  1. (2:35) Can you also tie in [abstraction, a critical part of IWAN App] with 3rd party integrations? Can you tie into other IPAM solutions and firewalls using that same policy language?
  2. (7:00) Do you know off hand if catalyst platforms are going to support different APIs in the future?

Here are our panelist’s answers in the video session below:

Also, among the IWAN Policy Automation session was the IWAN Application Visibility and Protection session where Sumanth and Pedro discuss Cisco Network Based Application Recognition 2 (NBAR2), PfRv3, and Wide-Area Application Services (WAAS).

Below are questions asked by the delegates during the session with time stamps included:

  1. (5:30) Am I limited to what NBAR2 can see as far as applications classification?
  2. (11:00) When you create custom applications, are they pushed out to the branch and is NBAR2 dynamically updated with the new information?
  3. (12:40) Do I need to install Flash or Java to install APIC-EM?
  4. (23:35) Looking at the business applications, if a backup job is running and WebEx is happening at the same time and I’m running into SLA issues can I also decide which of my priority applications gets bumped first because I would want to keep backup on MLS and WebEx on Internet?

Here are our panelist’s answers in the video session below:

Networking Field Day 10 was a great success for Cisco and the delegates involved. Keep a look out for our next recap blog on #NFD10 where Sumanth and Pedro go into IWAN Transport Independent Design and IWAN Application Optimization.
