Hey Hey Devs! We have been cooped up for two years and now we are coming at ya live and in person at Cisco Live in Las Vegas. The last time I was at a live conference was February of 2020. I might just bear hug everyone I see while I am there until they turn purple. Actually, scratch that. I am not ready for that, let’s start with fist bumps and go from there. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing you come out and for us to have some fun learning about tech.

I will be leading the Intro to Containers for Cloud Native Applications and Intro to Kubernetes classes. If you are attending and are new to these topics, my main goal is to keep things simple. I personally do not like concepts that are overly complex, and I actively work at learning how to convey concepts in a more simple way. So we will focus on the basics to get you to a more powerful position in these topics.

Interested?… put these sessions on your Cisco Live schedule.

Intro to Kubernetes – DEVNET-1487
Monday, Jun 13, 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM PDT
This session will introduce you to Kubernetes technologies and cloud orchestration. You’ll learn how powerful Kubernetes is for managing and monitoring applications and application life cycles. We’ll cover the basic components of a Kubernetes application and the base level units for how an application is brought to life using Kubernetes. Finally, we’ll look at how Kubernetes has made its way into edge compute applications as well.

Intro to Containers for Cloud Native Applications – DEVNET-1819
Monday, Jun 13, 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM PDT
This session will introduce you to open source container technologies and how to build applications with cloud native technologies. You’ll learn what containers are, conceptually how they work, and why use them in the first place. We’ll cover the cloud native landscape for containers, and what technologies to use to build containers. We’ll show you the step-by-step process and best practices of building your cloud native application.

Stop by the DevNet Zone

Throughout the week you’ll find me in the DevNet Zone. Meet me at the DevNet Zone’s “Hello World Desk.” We can talk tech, applications, coding, products, setting up your computer for containers and kubernetes, or whatever floats your boat. I am excited to see you at Cisco Live and look forward to helping you on your journey.

Where can I register to attend these sessions virtually?

Register here to attend these sessions online! The Cisco Live broadcast will follow the sun to bring learning and experience to everyone.

Where can I find learning resources to help me get started?

  • Visit the Cisco Interactive Learning Center to learn how containers and microservices can simplify your Cisco cloud deployments.
  • Try the Containers Learning Track to learn why you should use containers, how to use Docker, and how to manage your environment with Kubernetes. You’ll get an introduction to Istio and Service Mesh, and learn how to build an IOx application with Docker.
  • Discover new types of applications that can be built with Cisco APIs
