Video and education are a natural pair in many ways. With distance learning on the rise, it’s no surprise that more universities are turning to video as a way to scale their faculty and brand in ways never before thought possible. But what about K-12 education? Does video make sense in this learning environment?
To answer this question, we decided to take a look at one of our most innovative K-12 education customers, Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) in Alabama. With 91 schools, 60,000+ students, and 8,100 employees spanning 1,200 square miles, MCPSS needed a comprehensive solution to help connect and share knowledge across campuses.
Campus communications, professional development, inter-school collaboration and lecture capture were just some of the areas that MCPSS was looking to address with Cisco’s Video solutions. With this in mind, MCPSS installed digital signs in the lobbies and cafeterias to help keep students, parents and teachers informed, while also helping to spark “incidental learning”.
West Texas A&M University was recently named in the U.S. News and World Report Top 20 for both Technology and Student Services, while WTAMU CIO James Webb was recently named to ComputerWorld’s 2012 Premier 100 IT Leaders list. This program will honor the top 100 IT and business leaders that have shown exceptional leadership and innovation in IT strategy and planning at a conference to be held in Phoenix, AZ in March 2012.
WTAMU has deployed multiple Cisco Enterprise Video technologies, including digital signage, physical security and media experience engine.
Four students came to present: Hillary Anderson, Tamara Gardner, Sandra Kaminski and My Phung.
We asked them to think about how organizations can use video internally and externally. Their conclusions were profound and represent a unique perspective from a group that has grown up with digital video and mobile technologies.
All four recognized the newness of enterprise video for communications, collaboration and content. They astutely observed that while the benefits of video content at work—for organizational communications, meetings, training, safety, or events—is well understood, the main obstacle is changing behavior.
Video is making a huge splash this week at Cisco’s Collaboration Summit in Miami, Florida.
Analysts, Consultants and Cisco’s partner community are learning about how Enterprise Video is gaining a broader footprint, expanding from Video Communications, to also Video Content, the ability to capture, transform and share video to anyone, anywhere.
Attendees can see Enterprise Video in-person on the show floor through a variety of demos that showcase any-to-any video and how it is truly changing the Enterprise landscape as we know it today.
