The Lone Admin and The Cisco Technical Support iPad App
Authored by : Kent Wong, Product Manager, Technical Services
It was a evening like any other. The Lone Admin walks into a his local watering hole to relax after a full day of battling issues and keeping his company’s network safe and secure. He is known somewhat as a miracle worker, a conundrum wrapped in an enigma. Even against the most sinister of network issues he is able to stand his ground and find resolution all by himself. How does he do it? None of his peers know.
At the bar the Lone Admin gets a pint of his favorite brew and settles down at a table in the corner to relax and catch up on emails using his iPad. Moments later his phone rings. On the other line was a manager crying of a black plague that has swept over the network. No one else at the company is able to figure out how to resolve it. The Lone Admin responds “Don’t worry sir, I’m on it!”. Calmly he turns to his iPad and launches the Cisco Technical Support iPad App. The App springs to life.
Within moments the Lone Admin is able to browse through new security articles under the feeds, view videos within the YouTube section, and search for discussions around the same issue.
A few minutes later he finds the issue. He is able to ask for detailed steps for resolution by posting a reply in the discussion thread. The question goes out to the community of thousands of other network professionals. Somewhere else in another distant part of the world another admin has issued a patch and posted the steps on installing the patch within the thread. The Lone admin rates the reply with five stars to thank his fellow community member. 10 minutes later the Lone Admin has helped the company apply the patch hence making his network safe and operational again. His manager cheers for his success and thanks him thinking that the Lone Admin has done it again. Satisfied with his performance the Lone Admin finishes his drink and walks out the bar into the sunset.
