Telepresence in the World of Many Clouds

October 22, 2012 - 0 Comments

As my colleague Roberto De La Mora recently wrote, the cloud is the place to collaborate in today’s business world. Whether your organization needs private, public or hybrid cloud environments, Cisco and our broad network of partners can provide solutions that best suit your business needs.

And what if your collaboration needs include telepresence? Where does telepresence fit into the cloud?

With Cisco, telepresence fits into your cloud infrastructure wherever and however you need it. According to Forrester, “videoconferencing innovation today is geared toward extending connectivity…through cloud-based services or new lower-cost on-premises deployment models.”

Achieving additional connectivity for telepresence users and to attract prospective users requires vendors to deliver on several fronts, and today we’ll evaluate how our cloud solutions deliver feature-rich capabilities, scale user numbers quickly, and serve multiple segments affordably.

Our clients want to get up and running quickly and often want to scale users rapidly across departments; connecting branch offices, teleworkers, international sites, partners and clients anywhere, at any time.

To meet these needs, we’ve empowered our partners to customized offers that integrate with their broader managed service portfolios and bring end-to-end video-ready collaboration solutions to customers globally. We’ve made it possible with the Cisco TelePresence Exchange (CTX) as well as its integration with our Hosted Collaboration Solution (HCS) so that partners can manage customers’ video technology with the same efficiency and effectiveness that they manage all collaboration applications. The combination of CTX and HCS enables Telepresence-as-a-Service as part of a broader collaboration service portfolio, and enables customers to connect multiple locations simultaneously and securely collaborate with their ecosystem partners while offering the flexibility to buy or lease endpoints and leave the backend technology to a partner.

Within our cloud offerings, telepresence integrates seamlessly with Cisco’s Unified Communications and conferencing applications, all of which share a common architecture and commitment to open standards that make for a consistent and reliable collaboration experience. This helps make adding additional connectivity easy for our existing customers.

Cisco also offers reliable cloud-based video integration for growing businesses through our public WebEx Cloud*. With WebEx Telepresence, customers gain a cost-effective, interoperable video collaboration experience delivered as a turnkey solution designed to help new users get started quickly and cost effectively. And investments are protected if a customer makes a change to another Cisco Collaboration platform due to our commitment to building on industry standards and a common architecture.
