Infrastructure as a Service – Deliver Tangible, Revenue-Generating Services

October 9, 2009 - 0 Comments

Service Provider Data Center Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)Hello again. I trust this finds you well!

I have some exciting news to share – Cisco has announced Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) enabling technology.

We are convinced that with Cisco-enabled IaaS, the Service Provider (SP) has the potential to generate increased revenue, deliver higher margin services, and address the need for trusted end-to-end offerings. Additional benefits to the SP include:

  • Better returns on investments – through high margin multi-tenancy services
  • Ability to create new competitive offerings, and
  • Potential to open market opportunities with both, the small business and enterprise segments

Enterprise-class or small and medium business customers, now have access to IT/networking resources at service provider scale without the need to invest in or take on the complexity of managing large scale IT infrastructures. This allows customers to increase their agility and productivity – to better anticipate and respond to business needs.

IaaS is a large category and includes services such as Compute, Storage, Disaster Recovery, Development Testing, and others. We’ve provided details for one of these services, Compute-as-a-Service, as part of this announcement. You can speak with your Cisco account representative for additional details on Compute-as-a-Service.

We’re curious: whether your business falls in the enterprise-class category or is considered to be of small or medium size which infrastructure services are you likely to adopt first?

And if you are with a Service Provider – what is it that you’re hearing from your customers: which services do they want first and why?
