Launching Today: Next Generation Managed Services Channel Program

These three hot technology trends are not only bringing to life innovative new ideas that were mere dreams a few years ago, but they are making the earth a greener, more collaborative— and even more energy-efficient — place.While Cisco hasn’t dreamt up an electric car with TelePresence, today’s Managed Services announcements may take us one step closer to tech nirvana. Our updated Managed Services Channel Program (MSCP) offers new ways for partners to transact Cisco managed services business, provides access to a broader class of customer equipment, and creates tangible differentiation for service offerings.   1. Cisco's MSCP (Managed Services Channel Program) wasn't on the Agenda for Cisco Live, but that doesn't mean it's not worth talking about. For those that are interested (like me), here's the quick, complete overview of what you need to know:Cisco research shows that Managed Services will continue to grow at 19% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). At the moment, most of that growth is coming from IP telephony and security. Looking further out, Cisco predicts that over the next five years more than 75% of advanced technologies will be sold as finished managed services solutions.The best way to capitalize on Managed Services with Cisco is to participate in Cisco's Managed Services Channel Program (MSCP), one of three worldwide channel programs offered by Cisco. Cisco's MSCP offers tiers of benefits based on each provider's depth of capabilities as they relate to Cisco's Lifecycle Methodology: Prepare-Plan-Design-Implement-Operate-Optimize. From this framework, capabilities are then measured based upon an assessment of each MSP's NOC, People, Processes, & Tools.There are three levels of participation: Managed Services Master, Managed Services Advanced, and Managed Services Express. The highest level, or tier, is MS Master, which is reserved for MSPs that demonstrate expertise in all phases of the Cisco Lifescycle Methodology. My favorite tier is actually MS Express, because this tier includes the MSPs that may not have a NOC, but sell their services through collaboaration with other partners through Cisco's new white-labeling initiative. While the benefits are largely the same for all tiers, the bottom line is that those MSPs that demonstrate greater capabililities will realize greater financial benefits through the program.To join the program, MSPs need to take a self-assessment test to see where they fit in. Self-assessment is the first part of a 12- step process that concludes with an on-site third-party audit of each MSP's actual capabilities. It's a fairly involved process, but remember, the more capabilities a MSP can demonstrate, the more benefits that MSP will receive in terms of level of incentives, branding, global terms/discounts, programs, and awards.There is some small print -- for example point-of-sale data still needs to be provided in order for rebates to be paid (and to participate in the program).
