Happy Holidays: A Special Rap and Holiday Tribute from Cisco

- December 29, 2010 - 2 Comments

2010, what a year it was. Let’s see, it was the Year of the Tiger, the year of “Write the Rules, Own the Game,” the year of Cisco raps, and the year that Cisco and Tandberg joined forces.

There were so many momentous events that shaped 2010. While it’s impossible to list all of them, we put together a video and a rap to commemorate some of the events that happened over the past 365 days. Our video also includes best wishes for good tidings in 2011 from a number of different WWPO leaders.

Curious about the clips we featured in the video? Check out the following events that made the cut, and let us know your highlights.

Cisco Acquires Tandberg

Cisco acquired Tandberg this year and welcomed new partners and new products. The Channels blog caught up with Fredrik Halvorsen–former CEO of Tandberg to find out where he sees TelePresence headed and to get his insights on the future of TelePresence.

Vrooom! Fast Track 2

Last month, we launched Fast Track 2 to provide partners a smoother transaction process, simplified pricing on key product families, and reseller and end-user offers. The big news is that this new program will help accelerate partner rewards and incentives.

Partner Update: All of Your Cisco Partner News in Less Than 5 Minutes

To help you stay on top of the latest partner headlines, we launched a short video news broadcast called Partner Update – providing partner news in less than 5 minutes. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out this You Tube playlist to see all of the broadcasts. And tune in this January for our latest edition.

New Lead for US/Canada

There were some new changes to the Worldwide Partner Organization. Wendy Bahr took on a new role as SVP, Global and Transformational Partnerships; Edison Peres stepped up as Channel lead to become SVP, Worldwide Channels; and Jim Sherriff became the new lead of the US/Canada organization. While Sherriff was unpacking and moving into his new office, we got a chance to hear from him about his plans.

Facebook: We Like!

Like it or not, 2010 was certainly a big year for social media (the stats don’t lie). Just the Facebook stats alone are impressive: The site surpassed 500 million users this year, the average user spends 55 minutes on the site, and 20 million users become fans of pages per day.

See, Facebook isn’t just for teenagers. The site is increasingly becoming an integral part of many businesses, so we launched our new Cisco Channels fan page with much fanfare from Cisco’s executive team as we filmed them actually using the page. Be sure to head over to Facebook to like the Cisco Channels page!

Live Streaming Video Chats

We’ve all heard John Chambers call video the killer app. Mix live video with a dash of social media and you’ve got yourself big hit. We launched our own show on Ustream this year called Channels Chat. Ustream is a site that hosts live video and we’re able to host regular live broadcasts featuring experts from inside and outside of Cisco.

We hosted more than 10 broadcasts this year, including live video chats with Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers, and CTO Padmasree Warrior. Visit our Ustream page for broadcast replays and look out for new broadcasts in 2011.

Cisco Rap Collaboration with the World’s Most Interesting Intern

Over the summer, the World’s Most Interesting Intern and our very own budding rap star and videographer Pdrew collaborated on this now-classic rap hit: “Flip Like We Do.”

Check out the music video and sing along to their lyrics: Whoa, I got my Flip cam. Up in the club, VIP, with my HD Flip cam. We’re gonna get this party started!

Partner Summit 2010 “Write the Rules, Own the Game”

Last year’s Partner Summit took place in San Francisco with the theme “Write the Rules, Own the Game.” The event brought together interesting speakers like best-selling author Jason Jennings, Virtual Partner Summit allowed anyone virtual access to the attend, to a video contest for partners, we talked to executive women about work-life balance, got a backstage tour, and global awards recognizing our partners’ achievements.

Partner Summit 2011 will take place on February 28-March 3 in New Orleans, Louisiana and, of course, virtually for those who aren’t attending in person. In January, we’ll have lots of details and information about our upcoming Partner Summit.

Virtual Velocity

This year was our fourth Partner Velocity, Cisco’s event for partners to help improve marketing. But it was the first year for Virtual Velocity with content and speakers to help your marketing year-round.

We hosted a live broadcast with Luanne Tierney (VP of WW Partner Marketing) and Dr. Flint McGlaughlin who is Director of MECLABS and Director of Enterprise Research at the University of Cambridge.

Dr. McGlaughlin provided tips on how you can drive better ROI from marketing campaigns based on his company MECLABS’ extensive research. Check out my interview with Dr. McGlaughlin for his marketing tips and advice on improving lead generation.

We’ll be hosting more Virtual Velocity webcasts next year. Let us know what topics you’d like us to cover.

Architecture Marketing Kits

The puzzled looks, the yawns, the distant stares -–yeah,  these are pretty much your worst nightmare if you’re making a sales presentation to customers.

The global rollout of our new Architecture Partner Marketing kits mean you’ve got everything you need to bring data center/virtualization, borderless networks, and collaboration solutions to your customers. Find out how you can get your hands on these marketing kits.

Pump Up Marketing with Velocity

The first week of December 2010 marked a week of partners learning the latest marketing trends and advice with a star-studded speaker list at Partner Velocity in Barcelona, Spain.

I had a chance to interview a number of marketing pros from the event, including speaker and creative director of Thinque Anders Sorman-Nilsson about ideas and how to “thinque funky,” author David Nour about social media ROI and trust, and I also talked to partners about their marketing plans.

We’ll have more Velocity interviews in January as well as links to watch replays of all the speakers’ sessions. Check out the Partner Velocity video playlist for all of the interviews so far.

That’s it!

So that’s our list of memorable events (phew!) from this year. Feel free to share your highlights from 2010.

Now it’s time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. Thanks to all of you for your partnership in 2010, and here’s to a happy, healthy, and successful 2011.
