Cisco Partner Summit Day 3: That’s a Wrap

March 27, 2014 - 0 Comments

With day one and day two of Cisco Partner Summit complete Bruce Klein, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Partner Organization opened day three  by recapping the amazing parties from the night before, with EMEAR taking top honors for best party this year.

We got the chance to catch up with partners to hear their perspectives on today’s General Session. Here’s what they had to say:

Read on for a full recap of day three of Cisco Partner Summit.

Bruce went on to say that he had received tremendous feedback on the new format for the executive presentations this year. Partners really loved the shorter executive presentations and that was one of the highlights tweeted about in more than 2000 tweets from yesterday’s General Session!

Bruce recapped the past three days and then brought the guest speaker onstage

Peter Diamandis, Chairman and CEO X PRIZE

Peter Diamandis spoke about the incredible rate of change, covering all of human history. Thousands of years ago humanity moved on a linear path, which means, we continually moved forward but very little changed. Today we face exponential and global change.

As John Chambers, Chairman and CEO of Cisco, mentioned earlier in the week, when speaking of the “pace of change squared” things are no longer changing decade to decade; they are changing year to year.

Peter used some great examples, such as the first digital camera from 1976, which weighed nearly 4 pounds, to the current digital cameras which fit onto your fingertip.

“We are living in a world with a tsunami of innovation, and you either ride on top of the tsunami or you get crushed underneath it,” Peter said. He gave even more great examples of things we didn’t even comprehend a few years ago, such as 3-D printing or self-driving cars. He said he has younger kids that may never drive a car on their own.

He went on to talk about crowd-sourcing and the inspiration for the $10 million prize they used to engineer a contest to take a customer into space. He was inspired by Charles Lindbergh flying the Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic and today SpaceShipOne, which is the ship that won the contest, hangs beside the Spirit of St. Louis in the National Air and Space Museum.

Peter had some great stories and is a great speaker. It’s definitely worth your time to check him out for yourself.

Bruce returned to the stage and welcomed the global partner award winners onto the stage for a moment of recognition before handing over the reins to Chuck Robbins, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations, to close out the event.

Chuck Robbins – Wrapping up Partner Summit

Chuck took the stage to close out this year’s Cisco Partner Summit 2014. He teased Cisco executives  shameless plugs for standing ovations earlier in the week. He also poked fun at the group for being avowed geeks, but he was most proud that someone had tweeted, earlier in the week, that Cisco “got its sexy back.”

Innovation is ever-present at Cisco and he also said that he agreed he’s never seen such a pace of change in his 27 years in the industry. As an example of how fast things are changing, and Cisco’s commitment to its partners, he highlighted SalesConnect for partners.

Last year at Cisco Partner Summit, Cisco assured partners they would have SalesConnect, which is an app that aggregates sales information and demos into one place, within 18 months. However, they assigned 12 months as a stretch goal for that project. However, 10 months later, at Cisco Partner Summit 2014, we announced that SalesConnect is already in demo and will go to general availability at the end of April!

Before wrapping up Cisco Partner Summit 2014, Chuck had a little fun at the expense of HP’s Partner Conference, which was also held in Las Vegas this week. Chuck provided the audience with the top things “heard down the street” at the HP Partner Conference:

  1. Is it too late to register for Cisco Partner Summit?
  2. Wake me up when it’s over
  3. Did you see that cool cloud down the street?
  4. Absolutely nothing…

Chuck handed out an Aironet 2700 Access Point and 2504 Wireless Controller to one partner when announcing the Midmarket Mobility Demo Offer as well. Details of the offer are contained in the Cisco Partner Summit announcements PDF below.

With that Bruce and Edison returned to the stage to let partners know that Cisco Partner Summit 2015 will be in Montreal, Canada April 28-30!

Giving Back

Bruce highlighted two “giving back” moments for Cisco. Cisco gave back globally to the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology and locally to the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra. The Las Vegas Youth Orchestra was even on hand later to perform a digital composition from Mason Bates, who joined them on the stage. They performed “The Rise of Exotic Computing” to the delight of Cisco partners.
