Welcome to Cisco Live! from Geoff Lawrie, Country Manager, Cisco New Zealand

Cisco Live! once again provides a timely focus on the trends and new technologies that are driving our sector and that our Australian and New Zealand customers and partners are making decisions about every day.

There is no doubt the complexity of those decisions isn’t getting easier as organisations respond to economic conditions and the impact of the ‘consumerisation of IT’.

The way we connect, communicate and collaborate, as well as the way we access and consume IT in general, is fundamentally changing. Cisco’s recent VNI Global Mobile Data Forecast predicts that by 2016 there will be 10 billion mobile Internet connected devices, 90% of global mobile data traffic will occur over a smartphone or portable device and that mobile video traffic will account for 70% of all mobile data traffic.

Individuals everywhere want computing power in their hands, accessed using their preferred device and in a location of their choice, and that has huge implications for businesses, networks and service providers everywhere as they grapple with the security, bandwidth and access challenges that this entails.

Our economies – by global comparison – are well placed to respond to and invest in the technologies that offer the productive shift many organisations are looking for and to drive the innovation the current social and economic environment demands.

We are fortunate that right now, across both Australia and New Zealand, ultra-fast broadband networks are being built that will provide unparalleled opportunities for governments and businesses to capture network-based innovation.

Our governments have recognised that broadband is key to achieving our nations’ economic and social goals.  High speed connectivity will change the nature of our lives, industries, markets and economies. The opportunity to access new services and capabilities from both the private and public sectors is stimulating and exciting for businesses and individuals alike.

Navigating the best path for your network through these changes isn’t always easy – this is where Cisco Live! provides an excellent touch point for customers and partners  to access a deeper level of information and practical examples to help them with their network roadmap.

At Cisco we see the network as the platform for innovation.  Cisco Live! will offer the insights you need to help your organisation achieve the innovation it is striving for.
