iOS 10 Is Here…So What Does that Mean for the Enterprise?

September 13, 2016 - 18 Comments

At Cisco, we are on a mission to help our customer embrace digital transformation—deploying new capabilities to help them make money or save money in new ways.

The network is the foundation for digital transformation, and mobility has never been a more important part of the customer and employee experience. To help our customers transform their business through mobility, we needed to help our customers put their workers’ business phones in their pockets. Since iPhone was already in most of those pockets, we partnered with Apple last year to improve the experience. Now it is a thrill to deliver what is available via iOS 10: optimized Wi-Fi connectivity, prioritization of business apps, and the integration of voice and enabling of collaboration.

Over the summer, more than 30 customers and partners — ranging from BT (UK) to KDDI (Japan) to IAG (Australia) and DT (Germany) — participated in early field trials to help us refine our solution.

The results of tests have been really exciting:
– roaming got 8x faster
– Voice over Wi-Fi and Spark calling became up to 66x more reliable
– 90 percent reduction in web browsing failures

With these improvements, your battery will last longer, you’ll say “wait a minute you’re breaking up” a lot less. Plus, this makes things simple for your IT department. And we’ve made the iPhone an extension of the desk phone by optimizing Cisco Spark for iOS 10—so not only are calling experiences now familiar and intuitive but we’re making it easier than ever for users to communicate.

You can read more about what we’ve done to optimize Wi-Fi and prioritize applications here and more on the collaboration updates here.

  1. I just loaded iOS 10, my unsecured wireless connections work fine but my secure connections do not. Apple said to reset the network and that would fix the problem. They went on to say that I needed to upgrade my Cisco based wireless network. What is the solution.

  2. Definitely looking forward to Jabber’s use of iOS CallKit integration in iOS 10. That will definitely increase the usability for making and receiving VoIP calls.

Very concerned about Apple’s forcing everyone to Push Notifications in the future. Not being able to receive incoming VoIP calls will remove much of the value of Jabber for iPhone/iPad after just getting users onto it.

  3. Cisco has been satisfied with the status quo. Whatever happened to the “Internet of Everything” campaign? Cisco found out that it is impossible to function in IoT, not IoE, without involving partners, who are expected to take deep discounts.

I’ve cross functionally worked with Rowan’s team for years and we Cisxo has not innovate much. In fact, look at Cisco’s stock for the past 10-15 years. Straight line average shows a lack of innovation.

  4. Exciting outcome 🙂

  5. cool

  7. Awesome news!!! Love all innovation coming from two giant’s partnership.

  8. Great to see Rowan, is there a plan to move some of the DX range to iOS?

  9. Awesome… Cisco spark is going to spark the enterprise calling. iOS10 is a big release from Apple with lots of changes and features.

  10. I read, believe me, a lot of technical literature. It has been a natural part, a requirement and professional attitude during my life. And Cisco is part of my daily schedule, for almost 16 years. I often tell my colleagues and students, when I see Cisco’s achievements, business grow, creativity, innovation, collaboration, customer support, market direction, on-time partnership, or acquisitions, this small slogan: “In Cisco We Trust” …No doubt.

  11. It’s amazing to see cisco’s(our) collaboration with apple mobile devices. iOS-10 seems pretty more interactive . Hope to see some more fun coming down the line with this collaboration.

  12. Great update Rowan. It occurs to me, “there’s never been a better time to experience Cisco collaboration on mobiles (Apple).”

    Started the upgrade!

  13. This great and exciting news!!! We all want and deserve the desk side enterprise voice and video experance while on the road all from a device in our pocket. Thank you Rowan, and team cisco!!! Nice job.
