Cisco Live! 2008 – News: Cisco Aims to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions 25 Percent by 2012

John Chambers just announced during his keynote that Cisco will reduce its overall greenhouse gas emissions from operations and business airline travel by at least 25 percent by 2012. He said Cisco will achieve this by relying heavily on IT and the power of the network.Other key takeaways from the announcement:- Cisco’s plan is to use a combination of deploying information technology, reducing energy consumption in its facilities with the help of an IP-enabled building management system and analytics tool, improving the energy efficiency of its products, and purchasing a limited amount of renewable energy.- Cisco is confident it will achieve this goal and provide an example for its customers of how they can use technology to manage their own environmental concerns.More details can be found in the press release here.In the video below, Laura Ipsen, Senior Vice President of Global Policy and Government Affairs, explains how Cisco will accomplish this reduction.
