Cisco CEO John Chambers Statement on Steve Jobs

“The world lost a true visionary and great man today. Steve Jobs did more than simply shape our concepts of technology and invention, he helped define our understanding of how great innovation and design can bring people closer together. I, and everyone at Cisco, am deeply saddened by Steve’s loss. Our deepest sympathies go out to his colleagues and family. We’ll miss you, Steve, but your legacy will continue forever.”

    The best quality in him was that he emerged stronger every time he was defeated by life.
    I believe there is no one there in apple to take his place.

    I think that tells he tried to serve as far as he could to Apple, the technology and the world.

    The immediate feeling after I heard the news was (like many), how will be the world without him?
    Not sure how many more years/decades we have to wait before we can see another person like steve jobs (may be until we take time to put to maximum use all his innovations).

  12. Hope there will be indeed the iPhone5 which has been the talk about for the past few months with exciting new features.

    I’m thinking along the line that Steve Jobs had it all worked out for the 5th Gen iPhones but to be released later as probably the mobile 3G or 3.5G is only capable of delivering so much.

    Holographic displays, projected keyboard for easy typing and much more!! Well, it’s always good to imagine the impossible. Stuffs like that will materialize over the years when technology advances.

  14. An end is inevitable. IMHO, we don’t lose someone when a person die but we really lose him when we forget what that person had to offer. In that respect, I don’t think we will ever lose Steve since the world is a whole lot different because of him and that won’t be forgotten.

He read the pulse correctly and his marketing plan and strategy were brilliant – the way products were launched, price points set, reflect the mind of a true innovative and marketing genius.   47. I grew up about 5 miles away from Apple. My parents bought a small house off of 280 (which didn’t exist then), when Los Altos still had a railroad station. We watched Silicon Valley grow from apricot orchards to high tech, and Apple Computers was a fascination. Two guys — in their garage — making fun stuff that was cool to use. Two iconoclasts slinging sledgehammers at a 1984 video screen. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak’s roller coaster rides from flashing brilliance to the desert desolation of Amelio/ Sculley, back to technological brilliance. Two members of my family worked at Apple, and conveyed stories of Jobs’ authoritarian style, inspriring terror and excellence. One word from a fellow Apple afficionado sums up the feeling from Steve Jobs’ passing: “iSad”.

  48. I’ve lost someone close to cancer, too, so my sympathy and prayers go to his wife and family and those who were close to him. It’s a hard experience to go through.

    Steve put his own stamp on innovation. We’ll be learning from him for generations. I’m comforted to know that he got to see his touch-based products embraced around the world. It seems somehow a fitting memorial for a man who has touched so many lives.

  79. In 1983 I touched my very first truly personal computer. It had the title of Apple II on the box, this has gone on to define the next 30 years of my life. Steve was 26 at the time and already giving people an experience which changed everything. The company also went through difficult times with stiff competition and completely reinvented themselves. An inspirational story.

For many years I did not imagine that Apple will be back in the spot light with multiple innovations. Steve has created a serious technology company in the 20th century, and resurrected it to new summits in the 21st century.

    I can’t think of many in the technology field who have done that. His legacy will live for a long time to come.

Jobs helped bring to the consumer everything from GUI interfaces to personal computing; and he made user interfaces truly “user friendly”. Xerox PARC invented the GUI – Steve Jobs knew what to do with it; and now it is ubiquitious because Jobs saw what otehrs did not. The MP3 file and ways to play it were around before the iPod – Steve brought them to the masses in a format that we all had to have. Motorola invented the mobile phone.     Steve Jobs had a gift for seeing things in new ways, bringing together great teams to develop products, making those products easy and natural to use and then presenting them in a way that we all needed to have one.

    The world has lost a great marketer, promoter and showman but those he inspired will make sure his legacy lives on.
