Please Welcome Dirk Schlesinger to the Manufacturing Industry Blog

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Dirk Schlesinger as our latest Manufacturing Industry Thought Leader. Dirk has a distinguished career at Cisco and is currently senior director and global manufacturing lead of the Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG).

In this role, Dirk helps leading manufacturers become more competitive by transforming their businesses through leading processes and innovative technology enablement. He has extensive knowledge in the areas of business process reengineering, asset development and productivity improvement, as well as post-merger integration.

In addition to leading the Global Manufacturing team, Dirk has chaired the IBSG Asia Pacific team and was instrumental in starting a  cross-Cisco team focused on Smart Vehicles.

While working with utility customers at BCG, Schlesinger encountered the concept of the Smart Grid, a platform that facilitates large-scale inclusion of renewable energy sources like solar or wind into the traditional power grid and makes electricity supply more reliable and clean. Later, his work on Smart Grid turned into a Cisco market adjacency that after two years became a Cisco business unit.

Welcome Dirk!

  1. Greetings from the free and non-commercial Silicon Valley Automotive Open Source Group, which has nearly 200 members and well-attended monthly meetings. We have recently hosted presentations from Stanford, Tata and Google, and invite Cisco’s Internet Business Solutions Group to present to us as well. We meet monthly and have flexible scheduling. Please contact me if Dr. Schlesinger or his representative might be able to tell us more about Cisco’s Smart Vehicle program. Our group includes members who are independent software developers, auto industry employees and venture investors who would be enthusiastic to learn more about Cisco’s technology.

    Thanks for your consideration,
    Alison Chaiken
