Public Sector Open Session at Cisco LIVE 2011

July 12, 2011 - 2 Comments

All I can say is WOW! What a way to welcome the Public Sector customers to Cisco LIVE. Dave West hosted a Public Sector Open Session for those customers attending Cisco LIVE. Of over 1000 registered PS customers, we had almost 200 of them show up to hear Dave’s welcome and information from some of Dave’s senior Directors.

Dave started the session with opening statements and a Thank You to the customers. You can see an excerpt of his comments here:

Dave was followed by Mike Younkers who presented Cisco’s vision on Cybersecurity and compliance. A complicated topic, but having the customers understand that Cisco is working with them through the process is certainly good news.

Next was Darren Beers who talked about Cloud and Cloud strategies. There are a lot of different examples, types and definitions for cloud, but in the end, it all comes down to the network. You can’t access the cloud without a solid network to support that access.

Finally, Charlie Garcia presented on collaboration. There were several videos that were very well done showing how video can change the way we educate our children today. At the end, Charlie showed an example of just how we can do that by taking us on a virtual field trip to the Alaska Sealife center, which was a real-time 2 way video with the folks in Alaska. This was done via our partners at CILC, the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration. For a brief view of what that looked like, check out this video:

And the whole session was closed off with a happy hour with food and beverages for those that attended. It’s going to be tough to top this one, but I suspect we’ll have a few more surprises, so check back again tomorrow.

  1. Thanks, Dawn. I completely agree. This is the most exciting demo I’ve done in quite awhile, and I hope we can continue to share such wonderful opportunities. I know I plan to show this demo to others in education this summer.

    Thanks again.

  2. It’s really awesome that students from anywhere can visit Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, anywhere through videoconferencing! As our world gets smaller, it is important that our students learn to communicate and participate with people everywhere! I’ve personally observed how students can become motivated to learn more after participating in a videoconferencing experience, as well as gain information that helps them in their lives now and in years to come!
