Success through Diversity

January 31, 2011 - 1 Comment

“In today’s thriving multi-cultural environment, the need to manage diversity is one recognised by many companies, but something achieved by far fewer.”

This article from The Global Online Recruitment Resource quotes Jon Warner’s, author of Diversity & Cultural Awareness Profile, six characteristics which organisations, who excel at managing diversity, have in common:

  1. Awareness of the benefits of cultural diversity
  2. Inclusion – making minority groups feel included
  3. Tolerance and Understanding of different cultures
  4. Empathy towards every individual and group
  5. Adapation and Change to cultural difference
  6. Persistence and Commitment to recognise diversity and cultural awareness shortfalls

  1. A very interesting article – in reality it all comes down to peoples skills and personalities – and as such you also need to look at the importance of ensuring due diligence prior to hiring any employee or contractor. Is the candidate as good as he/she seems? Is that person as reputable as he/she says? Due diligence does not need to cost anything, there are sites out there who are independent reference sites – check them (for free).
