WAN Optimization and Application Acceleration Case Study – Manufacturing Company Lafarge

July 14, 2009 - 4 Comments

Why will a router-integrated WAN optimization and application acceleration solution give you better ROI results and ease of integration? Here’s a practical example from the world’s largest construction materials company – Lafarge. But don’t just take my words, see what Lafarge’s enterprise IT Architect has to say:
“Cisco WAN optimization solution – Cisco WAAS is saving us over [US]$250,000 per year in operating expenses by not having to support legacy email servers outside the data center and over [US]$420,000 in operating expenses through not supporting legacy file, print and directory services in the field,”
“Cisco WAN optimization is helping us save over [US]$100,000 in annual operating expenses by reducing helpdesk, change, and service tickets associated to legacy servers and storage footprints.”
“We are saving over three terabytes of network traffic per month in application traffic alone through the Cisco WAAS,”
“Cisco WAAS performed better than anything we tested. The WAAS not only solved the challenge of providing fast, LAN-like access to remote sites, but it also gave us the added benefit of accelerating multiple applications, including Lotus Notes for email, Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for ERP, Cognos for business intelligence, Oracle database software, and Altiris for software and patch deployment.”
“In the end, Cisco WAAS had the most compelling offer because it had the capability of being an integrated solution. We were already a Cisco technology shop in the data center and out in the field, and it would have had to be a very compelling offer for us to put another vendor in the mix and take a chance that the solution would not assimilate with what we had in place. We also had the ability to embed the Cisco technology into the existing technology platforms such as our ISR routers or into a refresh of the technology platforms without any problems.”

  1. Ariel,Just get your vendor to do a proof of concept to see if you get the performance increase like many have. It won’t cost you anything.

  2. Hi Ariel:Yes, we do have a robust ROI calculator that can help you estimate ROI and play with what-if””. Can you email me your Cisco representative name or the reseller you work with, we can set up a free ROI consultation with you. Thanks,”

  3. Do you have any free energy efficiency calculator like or other free online ones, that we can test our current performance and estimate ‘what-if’ savings first?

  4. Just read this tonight and it’s exactly what we are doing at Focus. We have 26 branch offices and have been directed by the management team at Focus to reduce the amount of hardware and storage in each branch office. We have three sites that we are testing this week as part of a proof of concept and so far so good. We’ve been very impressed with the technology and the integration with existing Cisco gear at our Data Centre. Thanks for sharing.Shaun GuthireSystems Administrator Team Lead – Focus Corporation
