Short note on Cisco – VMware joint solutions demos at Cisco Live

July 11, 2011 - 0 Comments

At Cisco Live earlier today, I had opportunity to talk with my very good friend Sean Gilbert (VMware’s Global Technical Alliance Manager for Cisco) about all the cool stuff that VMware is showcasing in their booth at Cisco Live. I was particularly interested in the demos and Cisco specific integration that will help our joint customers accelerate journey to private and hybrid clouds.

I was impressed with what I heard and thought it would be nice to share the highlights of the conversation I had with Sean. Here it is…should not be more than 5 minutes read 🙂

Abhinav: What cool stuff are you guys demonstrating at Cisco Live?

Sean: We have some great demos on tap that will showcase a wide range of solutions, everything from cloud infrastructure and management to end-user computing to application development.

Abhinav: Can you tell me a little bit about each demo category, what demos are part of it, and their significance to the joint Cisco-VMware customers?

Sean: The first group of demos highlight our cloud infrastructure & management offerings – vCloud Director, vShield and vCenter Operations Manager. If you are going to any of the Cisco IT Elastic Infrastructure Service (CITEIS) presentations or demos in the Cisco World of Solutions area or the CiscoCloud Lounge, you will want to check out this demo. vCloud Director is the back-end to for our joint integration with Cisco Cloud Portal and it is a great opportunity to see the guts of the joint solution at work.

Next, we are showcasing end-user computing with Zimbra, View on Cisco Zero Clients and an impressive UC on UCS Softphone Demo. View is something our joint customer, Oak Hill school district leveraged, in conjunction with Cisco UCS to achieve a massive ROI and 13-month payback, 3-year savings of $1.27M.

Finally, there are several vFabric demos including Hyperic, GemFire and tcServer that are going to be the building blocks for moving applications to the cloud.  It is a great opportunity to test these offerings before they become mainstream.

Abhinav: Where can customers get more information while at Cisco Live?

Sean: We are going to be at the World of Solutions, booth #1169.  Please stop by to check out the demos or for one of the 15 minutes presentations we will be hosting in our booth from various industry experts. Wade Holmes, our resident VCDX, has blogged more about the schedule and experts with help from Cisco’s Didier Rombaut.

Abhinav: Anything else you want to highlight?

Sean: We are also demonstrating Cisco Nexus 1000v and Cisco’s Product Manager, Han Yang, will be hosting several talks in our booth, you won’t want to miss…called “Secure, Scale, and Network your Cloud with Nexus 1000V”. Even if you can’t make it to Vegas, just after VMware’s Cloud Infrastructure launch tomorrow I’ll be presenting the Virtual Cisco Live session, “Scale Your Cloud”. There will be some great information on VMware’s integration with Cisco Intelligent Automation and some great things happening with vCloud Director.  I will also be posting updates and observations live via Twitter, you can follow me at @sean_gilbert.

Thanks Abhinav and I look forwarded to talking soon about Cisco’s demos for VMworld!
