Taking the First Step to Transform Jordan’s Healthcare Delivery System

August 15, 2011 - 0 Comments

In October of 2010, Cisco and the Jordanian Government formally announced the Jordan Healthcare Initiative; a partnership to improve the country’s healthcare system through the implementation of information and communications technology (ICT).

We are proud to announce the first step in this partnership, a pilot of Cisco’s HealthPresence solution, was opened in June of 2011. The HealthPresence solution, donated by Cisco, provides care-at-a distance technology for patents at Al-Mafraq Governmental Hospital with specialized physicians at Prince Hamzah Hospital in Amman.

A Patient and his doctor at the Al-Mafraq Governmental Hospital (MGH), in the north-east of Jordan, connect with specialists at Prince Hamzah Hospital (PHH), in Amman using Cisco's HealthPresence solution.

The Ministry of Health chose these locations after identifying a need to improve access to medical specialists in Cardiology, Nephrology and Dermatology for remote and underserved communities. A third hospital site will be part of this pilot, Queen Rania Hospital in Wadi Mousa, in the near future. Approximately 3 to 4 patients receive consultations per day.

An event to mark the unveiling of the solution was held at the Al-Mafraq hospital under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdellatif Woreikat, Jordan’s Minister of Health. Also in attendance were senior officials from the Jordanian Government as well as senior representatives from Cisco.
