Emerging Markets on the Rise – Are You Ready?

- April 2, 2009 - 0 Comments

The top ten ranked countries on the Network Readiness Index in this years’ World Economic Forum, The Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009 will not come as a surprise with Denmark assuming the number one position. It is however the dramatic year over year improvement of the emerging countries that point to the turning point that will shape the ICT industry in years to come. China moved up 11 positions to take the lead over all the BRIC countries whilst the Middle East was the region that showed fastest growth out of all other regions. The question that remains however is, where are the industry analysts?Analyst firms that are proactively following the emergence of these new economies and who are making investments into these regions will, and arguably already are, benefiting from their first mover advantage status. There are however alarmingly few global analyst firms doing this and I suspect that when the wave of intelligence requests on these markets and regions inevitably hits, it will be a lost opportunity for many. In the five years that Cisco has been communicating its Emerging Markets and Globalisation strategies to the analyst community, we have received consistent feedback:- Cisco’s approach to partnerships (both at a global and regional level) is unique, particularly as it relates to governmental relations and public affairs- Cisco takes the time to really understand the pivotal ICT dynamics that shape the development of an emerging marketIf you’re interested in understanding some of the thinking behind how Cisco develops it’s strategies for these markets, you will find chapter 1.3 of the report worth reading. Authored by Cisco’s internal government affairs experts, Robert Pepper and Enrique Rueda-Sabater, the chapter addresses a number of topics that are commonly raised in analyst briefings. If you are an analyst or an analyst firm that has an interest or presence in Emerging Markets and are unknown to the Cisco AR team, please let me know and I will ensure that you receive the relevant information in a timely manner.
