MetaverseU

For those already in the Northern California area, or who are able to attend via Second Life, the great folks at Stanford University will be holding 'MetaverseU' on the 16th and 17th of February at Stanford in Palo Alto. Henrik Bennetsen at Stanford has assembled a diverse field of people from around academia and industry with the goal to catalyze some critical thinking around the current state of networked virtual environments and where they could, can, and will go.

Be sure to check out the agenda page of speakers to see some of the topics and visionaries that he has put together for the event, and please try to attend if you are in the area for any of the other many virtual world-ish events taking place that week in San Francisco.

Interesting event but I'm surprised to find little details about how to participate, even as a viewer virtually?

Surley they would gain a lot of in-sight by actually running part of this through the medium of second life of similar?

Thank you for the plug, Christian.

I am getting ready to announce that we will stream live video from the entire conference live into Second Life for free and take questions this audience as well. Watch the site for details.

You heard it here first :)

The event is to be live streamed:

"Sat, 02/02/2008 - 19:02 — Henrik Bennetsen
I am very happy to announce that live video from every session at our conference will be streamed into Second Life for free. There are many members of our community who for whatever reason cannot make it to Stanford on February 16th and 17th. We wanted to give them the chance to take part in Metaverse U.

Over a four sim corner the SciLands people have built the Skyditorium (SLURL). Starting at 9 am PST/SLT on February 16th 2008 you can go here to attend Metaverse U for free. To further underscore that this is anything but traditional broadcast we will have people on the ground to field questions back to us at the conference including you in the conversation."

And post event: "To this end I am happy to report that the second part of this announcement is that after the conference all the videos will be made freely available on the web."

Looks like a great event and speaker lineup.
