The accolades keep rolling in for West Texas A&M University, which was recently named in the U.S. News and World Report Top 20 for both Technology and Student Services.

Led by CIO James Webb, WTAMU has set the standard for distance learning by using a combination of Cisco Enterprise Video technologies to help students and faculty capture, transform and share video across the campus and beyond.

Webb has himself also garnered recent honors, and was named to ComputerWorld’s 2012 Premier 100 IT Leaders list. The program will honor the top 100 IT and business leaders that have shown exceptional leadership and innovation in IT strategy and planning at a conference to be held in Phoenix, AZ in March 2012.

Early results from deploying Cisco Enterprise Video included a 10 percent increase in distance learning enrollments as a result of more courses being delivered via video, as well as an effective solution on campus to reach more students as enrollment rises steadily.  Digital signage has been a critical part of campus communications – directing students, faculty and administration to events and classes.  The Digital Signage is also integrated into Campus Security to notify everyone in the event of an important security issue.

“We’ve developed a framework of pervasive video throughout the campus to communicate targeted messages to our students. We have incorporated video through our web presence, learning-management systems, new digital-signage systems, video-enabled smart classrooms, and video conferencing,” Webb said.
