What the Holiday Season is All About – Cisco Connects the North Pole to Children’s Hospitals
Throughout the years, I’ve been able to witness some great examples of technology’s ability to connect people when it really matters. Now, with Christmas lights everywhere and the holiday season upon us, it’s the time of year where wishes really do come true. And no one is better suited to spread holiday cheer than Santa himself – that’s why Cisco established the Santa Connection program.
In its sixth year, the program aims to connect Santa with young patients unable to leave the hospital and allows them to “virtually” visit Santa. Through Santa Connection, Cisco engineers set up Cisco TelePresence solutions via iPad, laptop or cart in children’s hospitals across the globe. These children are then able to share their Christmas wishes with the man himself “in-person” over high-definition video and Santa’s elves are on hand in the hospital to give gifts. What a great way to put smiles on children’s faces.
Cisco TelePresence is connecting the previously unconnected, delivering the Christmas spirit to the children in these hospitals. Santa Connection is scheduled to make stops at 30 hospitals across the U.S. between December 4 and 21 and 14 hospitals across the UK between December 3 and 12. You can follow the action on Twitter with the hashtag #ConnectedSanta. To date, Santa kicked off his U.S. tour at Children’s of Alabama Hospital and Cisco’s Chief Marketing Officer Blair Christie was there for the Children’s Medical Center in D.C. stop. See what Blair had to say about the D.C. event in her latest blog.
Throughout this holiday season video will play a critical role in connecting friends and family that are unable to be together. Have you used video to stay connected during the holidays?
